i live the kind of life where i am occasionally asked or given the opportunity to talk about got7 debut lore and how jaebeom and jinyoung tied in an open audition competition and debuted together first as actors, then as jj project/an idol duo, then later as got7, after just one album as a duo. and when got7 debuted, they committed to the bit that they were got7's parents, to the point that jinyoung's original self-intro was that he's got7's mom. which is like kind of true, because jjp was kind of what birthed got7 when you think about it.
and then i feel compelled to correct myself, because actually they did make a second album, years later as a subunit of got7, and it was fantastic, and in an interview promoting it jaebeom was talking about their trainee/debut/redebut days and said "i think when we die our graves will be next to each other."
but none of that is as fun a fact as the behind the scenes for the song "yours truly" from their winter heptagon album, which was written by jaebeom with lyrics from all the members as a gift to the fans and when explaining the significance, he talked about how the chord progression goes 2-5-1, because "jinyoung and i started as two, and with the other 5 members, plus 1 for aghase, we're a complete got7."
and its usually at this point that i find myself needing to stop talking because i know how it sounds. i know. i know i sound delusional.
but that's not even taking into account when in 2025, 16 years after they met, literally half their lives now spent as friends and collaborators and family, jaebeom was out running in seoul and made eye contact with a random stranger and thought to himself "wait a minute..." so he called jinyoung and jinyoung said "was that you? are you wearing red shoes?" AND IT WAS?? AND HE WAS??
sorry i was just thinking about the red string of fate and got emotional.
