in our day and age of computers, we need to get rid of handism. I grew up in the generation where computer skills were just starting to be taught in schools and naturally we were told to use the mouse with our right hands. this was unnatural and awkward for me as a lefty but I would’ve been the only one using the mouse in my left hand so I never switched it over until I saw my mother using the mouse with her left hand. unfortunately, I never was fully able to switch. to this day I try to switch the mouse over at a place like a school or the public library but the mice are literally bolted down to the point you cannot switch them to the left side. even one time I was told I’d be forced to leave and given a zero on an online test because I tried to move the mouse to the left side. because I’ve been forced to use my right hand I can no longer use my left hand with a mouse preventing me from playing video games to the best of my ability.
how is this any different to the time when we tied people’s hands behind their back to force them to write with their right hands? can we stop with the discrimination against left-handed people that is so invisible and yet so visible? I’m sick and tired of not being able to write in a binder or turn in papers that are “backward” because I wrote on the other side of the page to avoid cutting myself on the rings of a notebook.
