I'm glad I decided to wait when Lofty Pursuits said they had their recreation of the Altoids Tangerine Sours ready for sale. Poor Greg.

Handmade Halloween candies in Tokyo, Japan
In late October, after months of watching a guy in Florida pull handmade hard candy, I sprang for the eleven flavor candy feast holiday assortment from Lofty Pursuits, and saved it for Thanksgiving dessert.
I showed my parents one of the 10 minute videos where they got to see one of the image candies being made, which communicated the concept perfectly, and they both became strongly intrigued, and we were off and tasting. Overall the entire experience was fun for all of us. My dad literally turned into a kid in a candy store, and the more he tried, the more he wanted to try them all. He tried all but the honey-baked ham, nice Jewish boy to the last. Many of the flavors were dead-on, but both Mom and I felt the buttered roll was a total miss.
When I ordered those Snow candy canes, they were supposed to come with a tiny bag of a special holiday flavor, because I ordered them really early right when they did the flavor experiment video with the special promo code. Instead of chocolate flavoring, the Black Cherry Chocolate gets the cocoa flavor from actual cocoa powder combined with just the brown portion of the sugar.
And when I got my candy canes, my free flavor was missing. So I emailed them. And heard nothing. Then about a week later, they sent out the holiday newsletter, and mentioned that some folks had mistakenly not gotten their holiday extras, and they were working to get those out. I waited a few days, and then replied to the newsletter, mentioning I had first sent email about the missing flavor two weeks earlier.
I got an email saying the missing holiday special was on the way, and while I was expecting a small bag of Black Cherry Chocolate, when it arrived I got three bags, and they put in an extra order (2 per) of those snow candy canes.
Lofty Pursuits and Public Displays of Confection FTW.
The cocoa powder totally gives that part of the candy a different mouth feel and I love the subtle contrast. Cherry flavor needs just a kick more.

Greg at Lofty Pursuits does a special during the winter holidays, where he makes candy canes with no coloring or corn syrup in them, and he actually made a hard candy assortment this fall that way. They are calling this the Ghost Image assortment, with the only contrast being unpulled (clear) and pulled (opaque) sugar. The flavors are strawberry, blood orange and watermelon. The crystal structure is slightly different minus the corn syrup and it doesn't quite feel the same when you eat it, and as you may have guessed, I adore it.
Travel Around The World In Candy, selection two, arrived and was devoured in short order. A better balanced selection than version 1. The horned cucumber was fascinating but slightly elusive. The woodruff was definitely novel.
