re: aragorn's age change in lotr. I've always thought they did it bc they left out the 20-or-so (?) years that pass in the books between bilbo's disappearance and the beginning of frodo's journey, though i might be wrong
Ooooh yessss that would indeed make sense. I’ve also just done the calculations again and yeah, the movie-book age difference is a bit less pronounced than I remember it being - Aragorn tells Eowyn he is 87 when in the book he was also around that age (88 and two days at the Battle of Helm’s Deep, 90 when he was crowned king).
So in weird hindsight, your explanation actually makes a lot of sense, if they left out those decades (17 years I think) where Bilbo was gone from the Shire that would sort of make Aragorn 17 years older than he actually is which adds up with Aragorn being older when BOTFA happens (although despite my admiration I don’t quite think they did that in LOTR so that they could age Aragorn in an eventual Hobbit movie version xD (I might be wrong though)).
Anyway, thanks for that note! ^o^ (I still love that idea thought that ‘Strider’ or something of the like is just like a title that gets passed down, it’s beautiful)
