Here is an update on the Caroline Peters case. Ms Peters appeared in Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court on Monday, 13 December 2021, to oppose an interim protection order. The magistrate dismissed the case. The Women's Legal Centre will be bringing an application to the High Court to challenge Section 154(2)(b) of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977, used in this charge against Caroline. 'So, this is not over yet. We will not be silenced. Again, women showed what can be achieved if we mobilise and, with the assistance of our legal sisters, advocate to bring legislation in place to enable an environment where we can assist victims and survivors of violence without fear of prosecution.
