In my latest blog, I Unpack some of the realities of why we have not ended GBV in the entertainment industry.  The platforms and resources are available, but support and solidarity are only for the chosen few. A lot of additional trauma is internationally ignored or dismissed. To the gatekeepers in the SA entertainment industry, please stop repeating history. In 2018, many survivors could have benefitted from your support. Yet, you allowed your power and privilege to further silence and cause emotional abuse, breakdowns and stress, emigration for some. You continue to set up platforms that boast your anti-GBV activism, but you remain silent when convicted sexual predators are supported and protected. Here is an update on the Caroline Peters case. Ms Peters appeared in Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court on Monday, 13 December 2021, to oppose an interim protection order. The magistrate dismissed the case.  The Women's Legal Centre will be bringing an application to the High Court to challenge Section 154(2)(b) of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977, used in this charge against Caroline. 'So, this is not over yet. We will not be silenced. Again, women showed what can be achieved if we mobilise and, with the assistance of our legal sisters, advocate to bring legislation in place to enable an environment where we can assist victims and survivors of violence without fear of prosecution. My new blog I write about consent and safe spaces. When somebody shares a traumatic experience with you, appreciate that space.  GBV happens against consent. If you want to tape the conversation, make sure the victim/survivor is aware of the recording and has permitted you to share the details and recording.   Confidentiality is one of the essential elements that lead to an increased sense of security for survivors.
