Why do I have such anxiety for Julian's well being? Am I alone in this?
Although Julian himself is very different from the rest of us (an ex-pirate now-doctor on the run from law enforcement in a fantasy world), his personality vibes for some. low self esteem. false confidence. disregard for his own well-being. for instance, i can’t relate to asra or nadia as much as i can relate to a guy who says things like, “Having trouble sleeping? Try laying in bed, rethinking every mistake you’ve ever made.” Like, that’s such a mood for me. And it makes it easier to empathize, therefore making it easier to project.
If you can empathize with a character enough, you may start subconsciously projecting your emotions onto theirs. This happens often when you feel inadequately prepared to deal with your own emotions, so you pass them off to someone familiar (i.e., julian). In this way, you can be worried about how they deal with being who they are- being who you are- while still maintaining a safe level of mental distance. As if it’s not your problem, since it’s not you.
However, it can also work the other way around. Even if you have nothing in common with the character, if their experiences are particularly sensitive to us you may be tempted to step in their shoes. For example, let’s say as I’m playing through the game and come across the parts hinting at Julian and Asra’s past relationship, I start to be reminded of a past relationship of my own that was strangely similar. This would lead to me empathizing with Julian, since I understand how he feels. And as I said before, empathy toward a fictional character can lead to projection. You start to worry about him because he seems real to you, since you shared an all-to-real experience.
The anxiety comes in to play because you want to be okay. Projection is always a passing of responsibility. If he fucks it up, if his well-being is in danger, your well-being is in danger. That’s how it feels, but it’s important to remember that it isn’t real. Maybe one or both of the reasons above are why you feel anxiety for Julian’s wellbeing? Needless to say though, you’re not alone in this.
I hope this makes sense lol. Sometimes I get caught up in my head and what I write makes sense to me but not to anyone else. Hope it helped!
julian's hands are so slender and nice and probably soft and if u held them he'd probably shake and they're probably kind of cold so you'd have to hold them against your cheek to warm them up, or maybe between your own hands and blow on them like whooooo and he’d blush and i'm just very tired guys i like julian's hands
*sobs* can we talk about how asra's lips are so full and puffy and cute like ugh sis. uuuuuuuuuuuugh

*sniffles* i cherish this friendship more than all others
can you imagine (in muriel's route) muriel asking MC on a date- they're both so happy they forget about his curse- and fast forward to muriel getting ((accidentally)) stood up at the bread shop, leaving sadly after waiting for hours. all the while mc thinking "i feel like im supposed to be doing something with someone but i can't remember." - handy
