. Art| Five minutes of silence Artist| #Hangmoon Chasing after a first love, I fell down the rabbit hole into Neverland. Late nights driving up the coast between semesters, I knew where I belonged. Seeing her happy in the arms of another, I did my best to honor the unwritten code. Pouring energy into each page, the world unraveled. From youth to pessimism, I was hellbent on finding a why. As senior year approached, it was time to try again. With the door locked shut, I packed my car and left them. Finding another warmth, I conceded to love. For a season, her gaze carried me out of deep waters. Then, like clockwork, our hour began to close. Wandering into a contract, I found family. We explored the stars and spent years losing time apart from loved ones. When it came time to re-up, my heart refused. Another adventure awaited that was put on hold to recover. Within months, another group was ready. Like it was meant to be, we found ourselves vibing. As each grew up, we had to take on other duties. Connected for life, we entered new worlds inspired. Fast forward a few valleys and mountains . . . we’re here now. In hindsight, I find the chaos so pretty. Failed attempts at perfection and long conversations over coffee, so many broken ones gave me pieces of themselves. Without explanation for each transition, all I can be is grateful. From seeking to give my heart away to one soul, so many others made room for me in theirs. It’s not quite Disney, and I don’t want to go through some parts again. The emo in me is hypercritical still. There are bucketloads of regret and shame.
