dermott: bro where’s your dorky brother
dean in the panic room listening to dark side of the moon:
Saw that Twitter post about how Dermott serves as Hank’s role model during Brock’s leave, and I’ve never thought about it that way before, but they’re literally right. Dermott was a crucial part of Hank’s development. Dermott is the first actual human friend Hank has ever had, and allegedly the first other teenage boy that Dean had ever seen/met. Dermott is also cocky as shit, and his endless stream of mendacity allows us to watch Hank, initially shamelessly ditzy and socially unaware, slowly but surely grow into someone who uses critical thinking skills and questions the logic behind what he’s told. Additionally, Dermott’s rebellious attitude really helped Hank come out of his shell to start sticking up for himself instead of taking it when Rusty started favoring Dean while still treating Hank like shit. Not to mention Dermott’s impact on Hank’s music taste, his sense of style, humor, etc. The genius of Venture Bros. is truly endless because I don’t think any other show director(s) or writer(s) could figure out what to do with newly introduced characters at all like Doc and Jackson can.
I love you sheila and your unwavering motherly instincts for anything even remotely deserving
my photocards. more definitely on the way
the fact that hatred changed his face tat from an ‘H’ for hatred to a ‘V’ for venture is so fucking adorable. he loved being uncle hatred to the ventures so much he personalized a prominent notable aspect of his character to express it better and integrate himself into their life in a subtle yet meaningful way. awesome
even nearing death he’s soooo freaking cuteeeeeee
this is going to come off a bit fruitless because ultimately I think writers can write however the fuck they want, but a complaint I have about a majority of venture bros. fanfics is the boys are always written as either highly intelligent or genuine knuckle draggers. I specifically hate when hank is written off as a complete dumbass, especially when they portray dean as extremely refined with a high level vocabulary. while I do think both him and dean are a little ditzy or childish some if not most of the time, it’s not like the two of them never once learned how to manage simple life skills like strategize or make rational decisions… dean was literally on his way to become a super scientist (whether he liked it or not), working under critically acclaimed villains, on top of managing college and running his own daily blog, while hank trained often with brock (who is the best role model in his life), passed the OSI test multiple times, and is at minimum socially aware enough to find himself a girlfriend...
on the other hand, I also hate when that’s all these writers focus on and they try to make it seem as though the boys were never tortured, molested, groomed, held captive/kidnapped, cheated on, beaten, isolated from the world, and literally fucking killed the entirety of their lives, all of which are major events that 99.9999% of the time traumatize the person(s) that experienced it. not to mention the emotional damage they must have received upon finding out they aren’t even the original versions of themselves, and having to reconcile with the fact their supposedly super smart and important dad—who you’d assume, because of his “super smarts”, he’d be able to piece together how to be a good parent—basically only saw them as experiments, lives that hold no value. maybe there were times where they remained resilient in times of tragedy, like when hank said he didn’t care much about being a clone, but realistically there’d be an aftershock at some point where they have to finally face everything they’ve gone through and get comfortable with uncomfortable truths. these boys are not superhuman, and while they are clones, they aren’t zombies or robots; they can be fragile and cry over the smallest things. just because they go through crazy shit practically every day of their life doesn’t make it any less traumatic. as a result, they’d eventually reach a point where they’ve been through enough shit to mature at least a little and be able to fend for themselves. which includes knowing about things like sex and masturbation, drugs/alcohol, how to fight or defend yourself, holding conversations even with strangers, etc. SO PLEASE STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE JUST A LITTLE FUCKED UP BUT THEY’RE NOT BRAINDEAD!!!!!!!!!!!
