me + a really sweet pal in seattle made our own little cutesy hanky code the other night flagging traditionally is a way for gays and queers to communicate w each other stealth about what their into (sex and kinks) it's super fun and worth looking into it always makes me feel so good to go out in the world knowing people who are into the same shit might notice that bandana in my pocket anyways, flagging can be for whatever you want it too, and we made this one thinking about how gayness does not need to be sexual to be valid and as a fun little thing to share between buds and break ice on knowing what kinds of dates and hangs folx are into feel free to use this, print out a copy or make you're own

So has anyone brought up gay hanky codes yet? Just seeing the paisley hankies made me think of discussions about hankies in Hannibal.
Actually anon, yes they have! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to refer you to Actual Fandom Treasure @cupidford, who was on this with the speed and the grace of a fucking gazelle: Paisley hanky codes!
Just wondering how many generations away queers have to be removed from hanky codes being an actual sexual cultural practice for us to give up trying to revive that shit??
I could do a 221B Con intro post, but I'm probably not going to remember anyone else's post when I am meeting them for the first time, and I don't expect them to remember mine, either. Do any of my readers find such intro posts useful and memorable?
Maybe we should develop some sort of hanky code to signal on the spot huggability/desire to hold conversations with strangers/etc. ;)
I'm thinking about hanky codes
There are quite a few lists on the internet (feel free to give us links to your favourite ones), and I decided to go through one that I found today, and I picked out a few that I think can be used also by asexuals. It's all about how you intepret them, of course, and this isn't "the answer" and yes some asexuals can even enjoy sex and blahblah. black/white stripes - kissing (both on left and right, but I think someone who's a bit dominant should have it on left, right?) lavender - does drag (left) or likes drag (right) gold lame - (what is gold lame? Dangerously close to gold anyway) likes muscles (shouldn't one be "has muscles"?) orange - looking to lead (left). What? Like when dancing?). According to other lists, orange worn on the left side could mean "nothing right now". As in, I'm not seeking sex. Perfect! grey flannel - (flannel? How lesbian!) owns a suit (left), likes suits (right) purple flannel - trans dude (any pocket) purple gingham - trans grrl (any pocket) purple sequins - genderqueer (any pocket) leopard - has tattoos (left), likes tattoos (right) argyle - geek (left), likes geeks (right) tartan, caledonian - fully clothed (left) (I think this could you know, help you to not having to be close to naked people. Personally I'm uncomfortable around people with minimum clothes, specially when they think I'm fine with touching them. I'M NOT!) teddy bear - cuddler (left), cuddlee (right)
But lets not forget our own flagging code - the black ring on the middle finger or the thumb! It simply means asexual, or I guess it could be aromantic or demi-sexual as well.
Anyway, do you think the list I'm linking is you know, somewhat applies to what is actually used?
Yesterday (or the day before?) you talked about femme flagging with nail polish. Is there an official code for femme flagging? I imagine mimicking all of the textures and prints of the hanky code would be hard with nail polish unless you are some sort of manicure magician.
This message is now a few days old—sorry, I’ve been busy.
Honestly, I don’t think there is an official code for femme flagging. Even the hanky codes differ in different areas/sub-cultures.
I kind of make my own code, usually using the three colors I did in the photo I posted because they make up the BDSM flag colors.
