Real conversation that happened post-s3:
After the disastrous hunting of Mari and the feast they organized afterward, Naomi put her daughter Judy down to sleep on the homemade bed in their shared hut.
When she got out of the hut she found Shauna standing in front of her hut, serious. Naomi eyed her up and down confused.
''Lynch... I like to believe that you're a smart woman and that for your sake and your daughter's sake you did not joined this plan...'' Shauna said looking at her with disdain.
''No I did not actually...'' Naomi answered equally serious, it was true, she didn't joined the Yellowjackets plan, hell she didn't even knew there was a plan! Not that she bothered on asking any of them because honestly that did not concerned her ''Why are you asking?''
A hint of smirk graced Shauna's face.
''Good... I like to see that there are still people who know what's best for themselfs..." Shauna nodded, and Naomi's patience was thin
"Im-Im sorry you're asking me this because...?" Naomi asked, too tired to deal with Shauna's bullshit
"I know we don't always see eye to eye... But I know that you want to go home... Because you care about your daughter and you want her to be safe, and I get that! I really do... That's why I want to give you a little reward for your loyalty... Because you also deserve to explore that anger..."
Naomi raised her eyebrows and shifted a little, now -for once- interested in what Shauna had to say
''Okay im listening now...'' She crossed her arms
Shauna smiled and turned to point at Hannah
''That woman is a traitor... I was unsure at first but you were right... She is not to be trusted...''
Naomi's expression remained stoic as she listened to Shauna's words. Even since Kodi's death, and the death of the first possible attempt of rescue in months she knew she didn't liked Hannah, but to hear Shauna out of all people agree with that was unexpected.
Shauna smirked at Naomi's surprised expression, pleased that she had caught her off guard for once. She continued, her voice low and serious.
She continued, her voice dripping with venom. "She needs to be punished..."
Naomi's eyes flicked to Hannah, who was sitting nearby, very aware of their conversation. The older woman's face hardened as she thought about the many times Hannah had rubbed her the wrong way. She couldn't deny the anger that stirred deep within her whenever she looked at the other woman. But she also knew the consequences of acting on her impulses in this volatile group.
"What exactly are you proposing?" Naomi asked, her voice low and tense.
Shauna's smirk widened, clearly pleased with Naomi's response.
"I have a proposition for you..." Shauna said, her eyes never leaving Hannah
''This better be good Shipman...'' Naomi said serious
''I know you miss your life back home... And I know that you want your daughter to go home safe... You had a chance of that happening but Hannah took that away... She took it away by killing the guide... She took away your chance of rescue...'' Shauna said while looking at her, Naomi was aware of what she was trying to do but screw it... She was bored...
''Yeah she did...'' Answered Naomi
Shauna nodded, pleased that Naomi was -allegedly- biting the bait.
"You deserve retribution for that... Hannah deserves to be punished. And I'm willing to let you have free reign..." Shauna smiled, a hint of something dark in her eyes.
"Free reign?" Naomi asked, her voice faking excitement.
Shauna nodded, her smile becoming more wicked.
"Yes, free reign... You can do anything you want to Hannah. You can beat her, torture her, anything... And I won't intervene this time." Shauna said, her eyes glittering with an odd excitement.
Naomi raised an eyebrow, pretending to be intrigued. She looked at Hannah, seeing the fear on her face
Hannah's eyes widened with fear as she overheard the conversation between Naomi and Shauna. She could feel the weight of Naomi's gaze on her, and it sent a shiver down her spine. She tried to keep her expression neutral, but the fear was evident in her trembling hands and darting eyes.
Naomi then turned to Shauna
''Naaah...'' She shook her head, to Hannah's and Shauna's surprise
Shauna's expression faltered, clearly shocked by Naomi's refusal. She stared at Naomi, her eyes narrowing in disbelief.
"What do you mean 'nah'?" Shauna asked, her voice tinged with anger.
''I mean that I pass...'' Naomi srugged
Shauna's anger grew at Naomi's nonchalant shrug. She had expected Naomi to jump at the opportunity, but her refusal caught her off guard.
"You... PASS!? You can't pass that's an order!" Shauna snapped.
Naomi scoffed ''Says who?''
"Says me..." Shauna retorted. She was not used to people talking back to her, especially Naomi. She had thought that Naomi would be eager to take her up on the offer, but boy was she wrong...
Naomi sneered, clearly unbothered by Shauna's authoritative tone
''Says you and that's supposed to mean anything to me? Fuck you Shauna! Good lord...'' she answered with a smile
Shauna's face reddened with anger at Naomi's insolence. She had never been spoken to like this before, especially not by Naomi. Her fists clenched at her side as she tried to keep her fury in check.
"You- You better watch your tone with me Lynch" Shauna seethed
''Oh il gladly watch my tone if you wish me to but let me tell you something... I already ate... I already got changed... And my daughter is already sleeping... So whatever it is that you wanna do with this woman...'' She pointed at Hannah ''...You tell me on the morning because im done! I clocked out! I wanna go to sleep, im not in the mood for this right now...'' She stated determined
Shauna's anger simmered down slightly at Naomi's firm assertion. She had been hoping that Naomi would take the bait and do the dirty work for her, but of course Naomi had to be difficult.
"Fine. Go to sleep then..." Shauna grumbled, her voice still filled with frustration and disappointment.
Naomi nodded, satisfied that she had managed to stand her ground against Shauna. She turned and walked back to her hut, leaving Shauna and Hannah behind.
Shauna then turned to look at Hannah
''Don't believe you'l get to walk away either...'' She said before going back to her own hut, leaving Hannah all alone in the middle of the camp
Hannah's heart sank as she watched Shauna walk away. She was left alone in the middle of the camp, feeling exposed and vulnerable. Her mind raced as she tried to process what had just happened. She looked around, hoping to find someone else who she could talk to or at least find solace with, but everyone else had retreated to their huts for the night...
She was having a hard time understanding what just happened... Naomi had beat her up in the past... Hell her jaw still hurt from the last time after Naomi found out she had killed Kodi... But this time seemed different... The look on Naomi's eyes was different... Naomi hadn't looked at her with her usual hatred or anger. There had been a... different look in her eyes. A look that Hannah couldn't quite place... She was confused and intrigued by this new development...
God she had to know why, she just HAD to... so she looked around, made sure no one was watching her and slowly made her way to Naomi's hut where she found Naomi sitting on her makeshift bed grabbing the fur pelt she used as a blanket and covering herself with it.
Hannah cautiously approached Naomi's hut, her footsteps quiet and her heart pounding in her chest. She peeked inside and found Naomi sitting on her makeshift bed, covering her legs with the fur blanket, a tired expression on her face.
Hannah hesitated for a moment, unsure if she should disturb Naomi or not. But curiosity and the need to understand what had happened earlier won over. She took a deep breath and stepped inside the hut.
"Naomi..." She said quietly, but Naomi quickly shushed her, pointing at her one-year-old daughter who was sleeping next to her on the makeshift bed
Hannah's eyes widened as Naomi shushed her and pointed to the sleeping child next to her. She immediately lowered her voice, not wanting to disturb the little girl.
"S-sorry, I just... I wanted to talk to you..." Hannah whispered back, her eyes darting to Naomi's face, searching for answers.
''What is it with all of you wanting to bother me when im about to go to sleep?'' She whispered, then sighed ''What?''
Hannah shifted uncomfortably, feeling a little guilty for disturbing Naomi's rest.
"I just wanted to know why you didn't accept Shauna's offer earlier..." She whispered back, her eyes fixed on Naomi's face, waiting for her response.
''I don't know... I didn't felt like it...'' Naomi whispered with a srugg
Hannah raised an eyebrow, not satisfied with Naomi's answer.
"You didn't feel like it? That's it?" She asked, her voice still hushed not wanting to disturb the sleeping child.
''Should I say more?'' Naomi whispered back
Hannah paused for a moment, taken aback by Naomi's blunt response. She hesitated, unsure if she should push for more information.
"I just... I don't understand... You've been itching to cause me pain for weeks now... Why pass on the opportunity?" She asked, her voice carrying a hint of confusion and curiosity.
''Okay but why do you even care? Like, most people in your situation would be happy y'know? They would take it as a temporary win and go to sleep...''
Hannah's expression faltered as she realized Naomi had a point. Why did she care? She should've been happy that Naomi had denied Shauna's proposal, relieved even. But for some reason, she found herself strangely... Disappointed?
She averted her eyes, not wanting Naomi to see the conflicting emotions on her face.
"I... I guess I just..." She paused, trying to find the right words to explain her own feelings.
''What? You just what? What, did you wanted me to-'' Naomi cutted herself off in realization, and then her mouth slowly curled into a teasing smile
''Did you wanted me to hurt you?'' She teased as she layed back on the bed, prompting herself up on her elbows, amused and slightly surprised at the thought of Hannah being somewhat interesting for once
Hannah's eyes widened as Naomi's teasing smile formed on her face. She could feel her face start to burn as she struggled to find a way to respond.
"No! No, of course not!" She protested, her voice a little too loud for the quiet atmosphere of the hut. The sleeping child stirred, and both Naomi and Hannah froze, holding their breaths until the little girl settled back to sleep.
Naomi smirked, enjoying Hannah's flustered reaction. "You sure about that?" She whispered, her eyes glinting with a hint of mischief.
Hannah's face went even redder, embarrassed by Naomi's teasing. She didn't like being teased, she never did, but there was something about Naomi's mocking tone that made her both annoyed and... excited?
"Shut up yes im sure..." She muttered, crossing her arms defensively. But her body language betrayed her, as her stance was more awkward than hostile.
Naomi's smile fade as she sighed, bored of this conversation already
''Then why do you care so much if I didn't wanted to beat you up?'' She whispered
Hannah's expression faltered as Naomi's smile disappeared. She fidgeted awkwardly, unsure of how to answer Naomi's question.
"I... " She started, but her voice trailed off as she struggled to find the words. She didn't quite understand her own feelings herself.
Naomi huffed, clearly growing impatient with Hannah's indecisiveness. "Well? I ain't got all night. Explain yourself." She said in a hushed tone.
"I-I don't know, okay!?" Hannah whispered back, her voice filled with irritation. "I just don't understand why you didn't take the chance to punish me... You've been pretty clear on the fact that you hate me, so why didn't you?"
Naomi's annoyance fade a little from her face as soon as Hannah asked that question...
''Well...'' She whisper, her voice almost sounding like a sigh, this time without any hint of boredom or annoyance ''Maybe I don't hate you as much as I thought...'' She srugged, trying to hide the faint smile that was threating to appear on her lips
Hannah's eyes widened, and her heart skipped a beat as Naomi spoke. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Did Naomi just admit that she didn't hate her as much as she thought?
She looked at Naomi, trying to see if the other girl was sincere or just toying with her feelings. The faint hint of a smile on Naomi's face didn't go unnoticed by Hannah, and she couldn't help but feel a mixture of surprise and a weird sense of... relief?
''Oh no don't get me wrong, I still don't like you'' Naomi whispered, noticing Hannah's surprised expression. ''But... I don't know, I guess I've been feeling nice lately-'' Naomi interrupted herself, she realized she was keeping her guard down and that could not happen so she quickly thought of an excuse ''And besides, these kids are gonna kill you sooner or later so why bothering on staining my hands when I can just wait?" She said, trying to mask her real reason, but Hannah could see throught the facade, but even thought she knew that answer was not reasuring at all... It still made her weirdly happy...
Hannah couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle at Naomi's backpedaling. It was both impressive and amusing how quickly Naomi could switch from sincerity to sarcasm. But even though she knew Naomi's second explanation was just an excuse, she couldn't help but feel a small pang of hurt.
"Oh, so you just want to save your energy, huh?" She whispered, trying to keep her voice lighthearted. "How considerate of you."
''Oh im always considerate Froggy...'' Naomi stated with a smile
Hannah rolled her eyes at the use of the nickname 'Froggy'. "Yeah, sure you are..." She muttered under her breath, but there was a hint of amusement in her voice.
She couldn't deny that Naomi's sarcastic banter was kind of growing on her. She found herself looking forward to their snarky exchanges.
''Anyway... If you already got your answer then I must say... Good night...'' Naomi said as she covered her sleeping daughter with the blanket
Hannah stood there for a moment, not wanting to leave just yet. She had more questions, more things she wanted to understand, but she knew Naomi was tired and wanted to be left alone.
"Yeah... Right, goodnight..." She said, her voice a little quieter than usual. She took one last look at Naomi and her little girl before silently making her way out of the hut.
