Asphodel and Nightshade

My interpretation of Hannibal and Will as Hades and Persephone, Alphonse Mucha style. Originally planned for the @hannibalcreative​ HannibalOdyssey event, but I’m way past deadline since this turned out to be a LOT more complicated/detailled than I’d originally planned.

Hades and Persephone:

The most popular and well known version of the myth is as follows - Hades, god of the underworld, fell in love with Persephone, daughter of Demeter, the goddess of fertility. Knowing her mother would never approve of a match, he abducted her while she was picking flowers and took her as his bride to the Underworld. In her grief, Demeter plagued the world with a year long famine, after which Zeus intervened and promised Demeter she would get her daughter back, but only Persephone had not yet eaten anything after her kidnapping. She indeed hadn’t - but when Demeter arrived, Hades tricked his bride and offered her a single pomegranate seed, binding her to the Underworld forever. Eventually a bargain was struck, allowing Persephone to to stay with her mother for half the year and her husband for the rest. 

So if you ever wondered why Hannibal decorates everything with pomegranates, it’s not just because they look pretty. They symbolize death. Hanni, how did no one catch you earlier. 

Another version of the myth has Persephone wander into the Underworld willingly, and choose to stay there to care for the dead. No matter which version, Persephone was not a weak victim. She was queen of the underworld, and feared as much as her husband - to the point where it was forbidden to speak her name out loud. 

Plant symbolism

General

Protea - change, transformation, courage

Protea come in many different shapes, colors and sizes, which is why they’re associated with transformation (in this case, Will’s becoming). Since Persephone is also the goddess of spring, more flowers bloom on Will’s side of the picture.

Hemlock - you will cause my death

Underworld metaphor aside, also very Hannigram appropriate - guys, can you stop killing each other for like two seconds

Asphodel - my regrets follow you to the grave

Heavily associated with death and the underworld due to its pale leaves and blooms. In some depictions, Persephone wears a crown of Asphodel.

Foxglove - insincerity

Will’s betrayal, Mizumono style. Also very poisonous, do not eat.

Hannibal/Hades

Nightshade - your thoughts are dark

Yay, another poisonous flower! I wonder if Hannibal, like me, clicked through hundreds of plant symbolism websites to find the right flowers for his tree flower murder tableau, or if he just… knows these things

Siren's Call - A Hannibal / The Witcher AU. // Hannibal the Witcher saves a dying siren from the hands of a sorceress friend. With the Nakama in his employ (or enslavement), Hannibal seeks the Blood Princess Abigail to convince her his bloody, nightmarish coup was all in her mind. It’ll just cost his new pet the last scrap of humanity he has left.

So basically you can see where you live based on which area of the fandom you spend most of you time in. Are you a writer of angsty fics, then you make your home in Fic Forest near the Cliff of Tears. Are you a maker of Gifs and Edits, then Mirror Lake is your home. Or are you a wandering minstrel that travels the entire length of the island. The cannimals and I live in the Adoraburbs of the Prairie D’Art near to the foot of Crack Mountain.

Gateway: Entrance to the Fannibal Kingdom. Fannibabies first arrive here, lured in by the glimpse of Canon Mountain and the beautiful temples.

Fic Forest: The forest covers a large portion of the land and differs in density and type according to the climes. Forest near the Fluff Valley are light and domesticated. Denser Forests are found near the cliff of tears. Fics found along the foot of Crack Mountain are often funny and those near Smut Canyon are….porny.

Prairie D’Art: Home of artists and creators of all manners of art. The flora and fauna also depends on their proximity to Crack Mountain, Smut Canyon etc

Crack Mountain: Extensive mountain range that spans Canon Mountain and crosses into Fic Forest and Prairie D’Art. Home of wild creatures that turn everything they touch into puns. Sightings of living vehicles, laundry and butter churns have been reported. Comic sans abound.

Crack River: Edits, Videos and Gifs of the highest crack quality

Festival Grounds: A field to gather for events, fests and polls. The HannibalOdyssey is happening here right now!

Dark Falls: Located deep in Fic Forest. Contains the deepest and darkest of the fandom. Enter at your own peril

Smut Canyon: Descend into the hottest dirtiest place in the kingdom. Also called The Plunge or The Rim by locals.

Cliff of Tears: Come here for much angst and pain

Adoraburbs: A small habitat where small and cute art lives. Home to Chibis, Wendigos, Penguins and other animals

Spacedogs island: Second Largest Island in the Land.

Tristhad Island: Medieval City

Marlana Island: Island famous for its beautiful and powerful women

Basic Chicken: Largely populated by Bulls and Chickens
