I usually wax endless poetic about Yoongi's lyrical choices and messages but I want to take a moment to praise his production skills too
A fun aspect of listening to music in languages you don't speak is the first listen only being able to have the production choices to guess what the song is about before looking at translations.
And Yoongi is so good , there's a reason he's extremely in demand as a producer.
Listening to Hansool/Drinking alone .... That slow syrupy thickness and incoherency of being so drunk you cant even get out of bed. All of that is cued to the listener with the bass heavy distorted audio ranting in the background, the warbling whines with the under water effect , it's dizzying .
Set me Free , the bird chirps , to the gentle plucks of strings to the moment the electric guitar joins drowning out the birds , it's the perfect build up to signify that feeling of being trapped inside and desperately daydreaming of lying in a field listening to the sounds of mother nature
The lighter used as a percussion instrument flicking on and off in Burn it , the gong as the down beat base note in Daechwita , the whimsical xylophone in People. The sampling of Jonestown tapes in What do you Think?
Just 😣 There's a reason Yoongi's favourite nickname is Min PD , the origin story of a teenage boy who thought he would be a producer for a small company and somehow ended up in a world famous boy band along the way ffftt.
HANSOOL IS WHERE THAT PIECE OF AUDIO FROM BURN THE STAGE IS FROM we literally heard yoongi composing that melody.....
