My friend went to Pride in Toronto today (I couldn't as family was coming over) and she sent me a picture of a group of aces in the parade. They were all wearing purple shirts, some of them with “asexuals exist” on it and looked like they were having a blast!
This was so incredible to me, as I had never met anybody or know of anybody close to me (geographically) who was asexual. It warmed my heart to know that there were others like me not too far away. I almost cried I was so happy and excited for them.
It can be difficult for me being ace sometimes, especially as I grew up, because so many of my friends were getting into serious sexual relationships. I thought there was something wrong with me at first, then after I learned what asexuality was I thought no one would ever love me. Seeing all those people at Pride and knowing I’m not alone was so uplifting.
Long story not at all short, to all my fellow aces out there, you’re awesome. Keep on being you
