Your Day
Doojoon had spent a good number of hours in the Cooking Club kitchen that day. He had told Gikwang he was at his dad’s office finishing some work but, actually, he was preparing something for his best friend.
He was working on a cake, baking a decent sized one, strawberry cheesecake flavored. He wasn’t exactly sure that he could pull it off but he had had to try. Also, he realized he wasn’t sure what the other’s favorite cake was too and he felt quite embarrassed. He was playing music as he baked, making sure that he was going to be in time for dinner.
After a couple of hours, he was done and his strawberry cheesecake, looked decent. He packed it up in a box he had purchased, tied a ribbon and put it in the freezer. He had to pick up some stuff as well and pack seaweed soup that he had made with his mom’s recipe. Then, he had to wrap a gift. He sighed, this was a lot of work but it was all worth it. Gikwang was worth it. The thought of that had him smile.
A gift was wrapped by his jacket and he bought it a while back, a new pair of soccer shoes and a jersey from his favorite team, signed by his favorite soccer player in that team. Yes, he spent a tiny bit on it but he knew Gikwang would love it. For him, it wasn’t much, he wanted to find a better gift but he wasn’t great at it. All he could offer were these and time. He blocked his calendar to make sure he could spend time with him.
Finally, everything was done. The soup was packed, his cake was nice and chilled, his gift was wrapped in a pretty box. Doojoon gathered everything and made his way home, slipping into the house and taking his shoes off. He could hear the other in the livingroom and he smiled, singing at the top of his lungs the happy birthday song with all the stuff he made in his hands.
When the song ended, he grinned, “Happy Birthday!!! I have….stuff, for you,” he smiled as he gestured at all the things that he was holding.
When Gikwang heard that his best friend had to work at his father's office on his birthday, he had been pouting a bit. Sure, it couldn't be helped, this was part of Doojoon's future after all, but if anything he would have liked to spend the day with the other, just enjoying his presence. Nuzzling into Sesame's face, he was sitting on the couch, letting out a sigh. This was definitely not how he had imagined his birthday going. His other friends had already went and congratulated him, but what he had been looking forward the most couldn't make time for him. Apparently he wasn't important enough.
As soon as he was about to call it a day and just hop to bed, even though it wasn't that late yet, he heard the other at door, suddenly singing him a birthday song. Surprised, he froze on the spot, seeing the other coming in, as he held onto some stuff. "Hyung! You are here! I thought you had work to do?" He uttered in confusion, but still approached the other with a bright smile. His heart made little jumps in his chest, he was glad his friend didn't seemed to have forgotten about this day. Excited he took everything, took in the scent that waffed along. First he opened up a box that contained a cake.
"Oh, it looks good! Is it handmade?" Smiling, he poked the pink cream and licked it off his finger. Sweet. Then he proceeded to the other box, cackling at the sight of the traditional meal. "Seaweed soup and Strawberry cheesecake? A rather strange combination, don't you think so, hyung?" The seaweed soup was actually one of his favorites, so he was more than joyful to get to eat it soon. Plus he appreciated the intent behind his friend's preparation. He was touched that the other had gone through so much troubles to work on everything, when he could had used the time for other, more important stuff. Gikwang felt a little guilty, that he had doubted Doojoon for a moment, but he kept silent about it out of embarrassment.
With big eyes, he turned back to his childhood friend. "Are you serious, you are giving me a trikot of Park Jisung????" Former Captain Park was his favorite player, and his big role model at that. There couldn't be a better gift than this. Expect for something entirely else, but that kind of thought he had to hold back. "Hyung!!!!" He jumped into the other's arms and squeezed him hard, laughing happily. "This is the best gift! That's so cool??? Thank you so much! Where did you get this from???" Hyped, he rid himself from his own shirt, threw it to the ground and slipped into the trikot. "Does it look good? Of course it does, right? It's Captain Park's trikot after all!! I'll treasure it forever! Thank you, hyung!" Best birthday, best birthday gift and best friend ever. That's how Gikwang saw things.
