I just saw your post about writing a story about Damian's reaction to Dick's death but haven't figured out how to comment on tumblr posts. When did Damian find out about Dick being "dead", and have there been any other batfamily reactions to his "death" other than in Batgirl 30?
Hi, hope it’s okay if I answer this publicly!
As far as I know (and I’m pretty sure), there hasn’t been a scene where Damian finds out that Dick has died, it’s never addressed. That’s part of my problem with how things have been handled - so much stuff has been happening that there’s never been any room for it, and on top of that, it’s not even true, so now it’s like, “how can we squeeze this lie in there”.
Apart from Batgirl #30, I can’t really think of any reactions, either. Although I saw this one scene from Batman Eternal floating around where Babs and Jason at least reference Dick in a conversation about how Jason “can never be Dick Grayson”. And of course, there is Alfred crying for him in Nightwing #30, which is heartbreaking. But that’s all I’ve got, tbh.
If I had to guess, I think the problem is that writers are of course aware that Dick is alive (and he’s appeared in multiple comics since his ‘death’), so they’re not really treating him as dead, which sadly also leads to the characters not really treating him as dead, so now it looks on the page as if nobody cares.
It’s a matter of unfortunate timing and poor handling, imo. It simply got buried (no pun intended) under a barrage of stuff. I understand how this happened, but it’s not great.
