Reposted from @northcentralshelter (@get_regrann) - This week we share a tribute to a very special girl, Shakira, and her family. Shakira came to North Central in July 2017 at the age of 13. She was very arthritic and had skin issues.. she needed a hero. Shakira had been at the shelter for 2 months when, thankfully, one of our favorite Senior Dog pages, @susiesseniordogs, shared Shakira for us and helped bring her to her (future) family’s attention. Fate would have it that adopter Audrey was visiting her daughter in LA and she was able to make the trip to North Central to visit, and ultimately adopt, Shakira. 💝 . Our (formerly yours) sweet Shakira passed away 3 weeks ago. We are heartbroken and miss her so much. We certainly made the most of the two years that she was with us and she was loved to the end and best of all, she knew it! Her eyes, her heart and her determination to stay with us told me so. Her back legs gave out in April so my husband had been carrying her outside for potty since then. They were so bonded. He’ll never be the same without her. We’re thankful that we gave her a much better ending to her story than was possible before adopting her. She was such an amazing girl and the most determined soul I have ever met! Thank you for advocating for her and ultimately bringing her to us. On Nov 12th we brought her ashes home. Forever with her family. Since it is Adopt a Senior Pet month, we hope others may be moved to adopt. ❤️ 🐾💔 Audrey & Jeff . If you found your furry family member at North Central, please send us your adoption story to share. Or if you’re looking to adopt or foster, message us to find the perfect match! ___________ North Central LA City shelter; 3201 Lacy St., Los Angeles, CA; 213-485-5767. ___________ #adopted #adoptionstory #foreverhomefound #happypethappyhome #AdoptaSeniorPet #friendforlife #seniordoglove #adoptLove #startastoryadopt #laanimalservices #A1713583 - #regrann https://www.instagram.com/p/B5ndvQTBPAs/?igshid=15f7ciwr92w20
