Chapter Summary:
"How has it been going, adjusting to life without the arc reactor? Last month you told me you were relieved, but we didn't really talk much about it."
Lena shifted into a more comfortable position, fidgeting with the creases of her skirt as she did. "To be fair, last month I could barely sit long enough for us to have a session at all."
Greg dipped his head in acquiescence, an appeasing smile on his face, but said nothing, obviously waiting for her to continue.
"It's... strange, I guess. I didn't think there would be things I would miss about having it," Lena tried to shrug it off, but Greg waited her out patiently. "Kara picked up one of those motion sensor nightlights that glows blue all the time, but the color isn't quite the same. We've both been sleeping better since we brought a fan into the bedroom... it's so quiet at night, now."
Her fingers were tracing the button above her scar, and Lena jerked her hand away as soon as she noticed it. Greg's eyebrows raised, and Lena sighed.
"And there's that. It's silly. I never touched it much when it was there, but I'm constantly going to tap my fingers against it now that it isn't."
"It was a huge part of your life for years. It makes sense that you'd feel like something is missing."
Lena shook her head, mouth pulled tight into a frown. "It's not that. I hated having it, in the end. I resented it, and I never even realized it until you pointed it out. I hated what it did to me, and why it was there. I wasn't expecting to miss it."
"Does it make you feel less, somehow, to not have it?"
Lena looked at him askance, and shook her head firmly. "Of course not."
