Learn how to make hard apple cider at home without adding yeast. This recipe yields a deliciously tart and flavorful cider that's perfect for enjoying on any occasion.
Ingredients: 4-5 large apples, cored and chopped. 4 cups water. 1 cup sugar. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves. 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg. 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice. 1/4 teaspoon citric acid optional.
Instructions: In a large pot, combine chopped apples, water, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and allspice. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Once cooled, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean container. If using, stir in citric acid for added tartness. Cover the container with a clean cloth or paper towel and secure with a rubber band. Let the mixture ferment at room temperature for 1-2 weeks, stirring daily. After fermentation, transfer the cider to airtight bottles or jars and refrigerate. Serve chilled and enjoy!
