The song was produced by DJ Premier and features verses from both members of Gang Starr, Guru and DJ Premier. The album "Daily Operation" was Gang Starr's third studio album, it was released on April 14th, 1992 by Chrysalis Records. The album was well received by critics and is considered a classic in hip hop. It features the hit single "Just to Get a Rep" and "2 Deep" is considered a fan favorite and one of the most memorable tracks of the album.

Gang Starr was an American hip hop duo formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1985. The group was composed of MC Guru and DJ Premier. Hard to Earn es el cuarto álbum de estudio del dúo Gang Starr conformado por el productor DJ Premier y el ya fallecido rapero Guru. Fue lanzado hoy 8 de marzo de 1994 por Chrysalis Records y EMI Records, fue mezclado y grabado en D&D Studios. El álbum incluye los sencillos "Mass Appeal" (su primer sencillo en las listas de Billboard Hot 100), "DWYCK" (con Nice & Smooth) y "Code of the Streets".
