Here are some proper-camera shots of the finished Nature Witches in their shadowbox homes! To see a few more photos, you can visit them on my website.

The witches are hand-embroidered/sewn, the scenery is made from a whole bunch of materials (lots of fancy paper was involved), and I built the shadow boxes by hand from eska board (a.k.a. bookboard) & covered them in bookcloth (much easier than attempting to learn woodworking in the space of a week!).

All four of these lovely, sorcerous characters are a part of Hard Twist 11, which is up at the Gladstone Hotel from now until January 9th, 2017. If you’re in Toronto & have some time to spare, you can find them up on the 4th floor of the hotel.

Here’s post two of two of process photos from my two weeks of witchcraft!

This one’s focused on the Owl Witch, as I somehow (somehow??) finished her in about three days. Turns out panic is a great motivator!?

Her wee Barn Owl familiar might be my favourite part of the whole project - she’s so tiny & lovely & luckily turned out exactly how I’d envisioned her in my head!

This witch pal & her three Nature Witch sisters will be a part of the Hard Twist 11: Spin textile art show (click for more info!), which will be up at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto from August 26, 2015 until January 9, 2017!

So! An update on my witchcraft!

I did end up being able to finish all four witches (proper fancy-camera photos will show up here soon!) in time to drop them off at the Gladstone Hotel this weekend, which was an EXTREME RELIEF. 

I don’t know exactly how I managed to do this much embroidery/shadowbox-building/tiny scene-making in just two weeks, but it happened and I am exhausted-but-proud.

These witch pals will be a part of the Hard Twist 11: Spin textile art show (click for more info!), which will be up at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto from August 26, 2015 until January 9, 2017!

Hello! I have returned from the stressful, sticky mire of moving from one entire city to another. It was a slog at times, but I have come through the other side free of ROUS bites & (mostly) uninjured, and now have a MUCH bigger studio (photos to come when it’s a bit more set up) and am back to work on my embroidered witches, who need to be done & delivered to the Gladstone Hotel on August 20 (EEK).

This is my recent progress on the Star Witch, who I hope to be almost-finished by the end of today, as I have quite a bit of work to do on the final two witches before the weekend gets here!
