Kakuzu hadn’t emptied out the pockets of his cloak for a couple of weeks now. It was sorely overdue, as he was sure he was missing a few receipts. As he pulled out all of the items in his pockets he made a list of everything he set on the table:

1. Wallet2. 4 scrolls of sealed items including weapons, money, books, rare collectibles for selling, and Hidan’s Jashinist tome to keep him from spouting religious verses. Hint: it didn’t work. 3. A scroll with extra clothing. Most of it for Hidan because he tends to ruin and bleed on everything.4. Miscellaneous keys, a lockpicking kit.5. A first aid kit.6. No less than 12 crumpled receipts.7. So many coupons. 8. Kunai, shuriken, and other various ninja tools9. Box of feminine hygiene products? He must have been shopping for Konan at one point. How expensive.10. A few neat looking rocks that he thinks about throwing at Hidan when Hidan gets annoying.11. A bag of trail mix in case he’s feeling peckish. Dried apricots for the same reason.12. Approximately 12 dollars in miscellaneous spare change in different currencies.13. Some clay, in case Deidara runs out when they’re out together.14. Several fake IDs15. His Bingo Book16. A deck of really old playing cards. 17. Lint.18. A gameboy he stole off some annoying kid who wouldn’t shut up while he had a headache. Yes, he plays it.19. A worn out picture of a man who looks an awful lot like Kakuzu. He wondered where that went.20. Matches.21. A cloth he regularly washes because he uses it to clean blood off of Hidan’s face when he gets carried away.

Also relevant @harefrost Lee is intimidated by Haku because he is so smart and cool. He is worried he’s gonna say something dumb around Haku and he thinks Haku is brilliant tbh. But he’s also so kind?? And that really gets Lee SHOOK.

He’s used to really intelligent people being assholes/unkind to him? Lbr the characters in the series recognized as the *smartest* have mocked Lee at some point. Even his teammate and bestie Neji. And that’s made him really nervous about talking to really brilliant people: He’s worried they’re going to make fun of him. He’s used to that. He hates when it happens.

But Haku doesn’t do that and it’s so foreign to him. Haku is nice to him? He doesn’t feel like Haku is “dumbing down” his speech to talk to him. And its a cool and warm and nice new feeling that he wants to experience more often.

He almost messed up, his words were too harsh again, his demeanor too rough. “Kid-” He wanted to say it damn it! To let those words ease out of his twisted mind and go past chapped covered lips.His grip tightened, how often has he left bruises upon the younger man? How long was he willing to lie to them both?He was messed up, far beyond what others could see. But Haku, Haku was his weakness.Rough hands slipped away as he stood there, his jaw clenching out of pure stubbornness before his words fell away into the silence that stretched between them. “I’m Proud- You, make me proud. “ He wanted to call Haku his child, but there was so much damage, so many bruises, so many long days and nights of this kid feeling like he was nothing but a TOOL to be used.He was growing soft, if only it happened sooner.
