harekuin said: :( what's wrong? I'm not really sure :( I guess I have a lot of stuff to do and no motivation, and I keep sleeping through half the day which really sucks, and I also just wasted about three grand so I'm feeling really angsty about that :(((((((
question: i want to try out acting so i want to do some work as extra first. do i NEED to be with an agency? can i just call the casting director and be like "yes id like to try out as extra plz?"
Hey! :)The answer depends on various things. If you want to do extra work for free, that is just a game of luck. The most recent movie I did, I did for free. My friend saw that they were looking for some volunteer extras, so we went. Often times there are posting online or somewhere advertising for volunteers. For unpaid extra work, it is just being in tune with the acting world in your area. For paid extra work, you CAN work through an agent, especially depending where you live. If you happen to live in Vancouver, you are able to work WITHOUT an agent, just through a sort of agency called BCF acting. All you need to send is a headshot (doesn’t have to be professional) and fill out a profile. They will then send you various casting calls for extras. BCF is just one company. You can still attend open casting calls that require no form of representation, but again you need to find these yourself. If you don’t live in Vancouver, you can still work without an agent. Toronto has their own similar company called TFX. If you don’t want to go through companies, there are many websites and blogs that post open casting calls. Keep in mind though, open casting calls have many people trying out, and it may require an audition with possibly no results. When working with a person or a company that sends you info, you are then able to simply accept work and often may not require an audition. If you’d like more info send me a message where you’re from and I can try to help you out!Sorry for the long message!:)
i want to take up archery as a hobby, what is a good way to start?
Thanks for the question!
Locating a club/range/place-to-shoot is always the first step. So if you're in the USA, I'd recommend using either USA Archery's club locator or Google using the terms "Archery club range ". If you're in other parts of the world, I'd still try using the internet, but it's up to you how you find it. (Mostly because I don't have the faintest idea what it's like elsewhere trying to find something without the Internet.) The range/club will set you up with beginner lessons (that typically provide equipment) that will keep you from forming bad habits. Later if you want to compete, there are typically competitive programs that you can enroll in.
I know the cost of lessons is kind of a big deal for people, but you will benefit from them more as a beginner archer. (I've had 1-3 lessons over 15+ years of shooting and formed some terrible habits that I've only recently broken). Lessons can vary from cheap to expensive, so you should shop around. As far as equipment is concerned, at the beginner level you don't absolutely need your own because most decent ranges do provide a bow of varying sizes and draw-weights and arrows, but if you want a bow of your own and arrows, I'd still talk to your shop and try some out so you can figure out what draw-weight and type (recurve or compound (the one with wheels)) you want.
