BURGER ARCHIVAL PROJECT: BRGR018 Harlem - Free Drugs ;-) (CASS) LISTEN: "South Of France" by Harlem RELEASE DATE: 2009 QTY: 250 cassettes originally pressed NOTES: We first met Coomers when he played Koos Cafe in Santa Ana with his band Coomers Explosion (featuring Seth Bogart on drums)! Lee and I were in high school and already huge music nerds and loved the New Wave Explosion! CD compilation that Seth had put out on his label Super 8. So we went to the show and decided our "band" The NOiSE! was going to jump on and play (which we did often because we were banned from Koos). We didn't have a drummer so we asked Seth if knew how to play drums. He said yes so we said he wouldn't work, we needed someone who didn't know how to play because we didn't know how to play either. So we got Coomers and we played for about 10 seconds before they shut the power off, per usual. Coomers was in and out of our lives for the next few years. We'd see him in Austin when we toured with Thee Makeout Party! and when we started Burger he released Harelm "Free Drugs ;-)" w/ Curtis O'Mara on their label Female Fantasy! We loved loved loved the record (and especially "South Of France" which we listen to over and over (and over)) and asked if they wanted to do a Burger tape. They were down and we made it happen, of course! For the first pressing the J-cards were printed on paper with a beach sunset setting on it - we were still cutting all of the covers ourselves (usually Lee would do it at Rancho Del Rio on this old rusty paper cutter). It took us a while to learn how to do this haha. Fast forward to today, we work with Coomers' new band Lace Curtains and we're gonna be doing the new LP for Curtis' awesome group Grape St.!
