Chris has always struck Carrie as being different. She was the leader, the ringmaster, the head bitch in charge ( Prayin’ Carrie, prayin’ Carrie, all her friends are imaginary ! ) but there was just something about her that set her slightly apart from the others. Carrie couldn’t quite put her finger on it, but it always lingered around the edges of her perception of the other girl, like something forever in her peripheral vision that vanished whenever she tried to turn to see it properly.
Carrie has read the scriptures while in her closet, and despite Momma’s tirades about the wrath of God, the Bible says Jesus is all about forgiveness, even to those who have hurt you -- O Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.
( Hey, Carrie, did you know that pig shit is spelled C-A-R-R-I-E ? )
Carrie has never wronged Christine Hargensen. If Jesus could find it in his heart to forgive the Romans who nailed Him to the Cross, then why shouldn’t Carrie be able to forgive this girl her past cruelties and move forward?
❝ Chris, wait up! Umm, do you maybe...have a minute? ❞
