My First Destiel Fic, vol. 7
Thank you guys for sharing your memories! My First Destiel Fic is a nostalgic survey open to any destiel fan with a simple goal - to celebrate fics that were our gateway into a wonderful world of destiel. Thank you, fic writers, you are our heroes!

I started watching spn around 2012. I’m not sure how I came across Slow Moving Cars by Gedry (because I didn’t use livejournal and yet I know that’s where I read it) but it gave me a place to rest and escape to when I was in high school. I have a soft spot for it all these years later because of artist! dean (I’m an artist) and cute enemies to friends to lovers. I’m biased but I really think deserves more love now that it’s on ao3.

Written for zombie_oak who won me in the helpthesouth auction. She asked for a Dean/Cas college AU involving Dean being an ass at first and then having to make it up to Cas. I hope this is good enough.
comment from dff mod @flyingcatstiel - Gedry was one the first destiel writers I devoured when I joined fandom 8 years ago. Their wing fic Going Forward was my very first review on this blog, soon followed by a review of This is All Life Really Means. I had a very poor understanding of how LJ works but I wanted to read all their fics there. So, years later, I was really thrilled to see that now these fics are also available on AO3. Please give them a chance on the new platform!

I think I started watching the show in between when season 8 and 9 were airing. The first Supernatural fic I have bookmarked, one of the first ones I read if not THE first, was Even The Poorest Art Is Eloquent by riseuplikeangels. I read it before getting to season 4 and meeting Cas, so reading an AU was a great way of falling in love with the characters without having to know the plot.

Castiel is a Biblical artist, Dean a displaced Kansan losing everything at once. And, as is the way of this odd universe of ours, fickle Fate brings them together.
If you enjoyed the fic, please drop by the archive (AO3) and let the author know with your comments and/or kudos! And if you found our recs useful, let us know by Liking and/or Reblogging our posts!
