I hate when I see stuff about "gen z this" and "millennial that," because I genuinely don't think a lot of people realize just how random and short the different generations are.
Like, let me tell you when each generation was born.
(According to this article on parents.com. I'll add another link to it in the comments for people who don't like clicking links they can't actually see the url for first).
The Greatest Generation was born 1901-1927.
That's a whole 26 years, not bad.
The Silent Generation was born 1928-1945.
That's only 17 years, so the it's already getting wonky and I've only listed 2 generations!
The Baby Boom Generation was born from 1946-1964.
18 years, not much different from the generation before it.
Generation X was born from 1965-1980.
That's 15 years, which is still not that bad, but also, that's not really that many.
The Millenial Generation/Generation Y was born from 1981-1996.
Hey, 15 years again!
Generation Z was born from 1997-2010.
That's only 13 years. I have more to say but let me finish listing the generations first.
Generation Alpha was born from 2010-2024
14 years
Generation Beta was/will be born from 2025-2039.
And 14 years again.
Now, despite my bits of sarcastic commentary, classifying different generations like this can be helpful for science!
But it's not helpful to exclude one another by saying "Gen Z won't understand this, but..." Or "...is completely unique to us millenials" or whatever.
15 years isn't that much compared to the average human lifespan, y'all. The different generations have more similarities than differences and more that connect us than seperate us.
And excluding each other based on what generation we're in... Not the best idea.
