the star/moon-coded dynamic
not polar opposites, but a complementary pair. you can never have one without the other, and they're so beautiful and magical dancing in the night sky together.
heart is breaking again for Arin in Nora S2. Arin who sees their former best friend eschewing a meeting with them in favor of running with a new group, while they're as alone as they were their whole life before Whitethorn, unsure of how much of their shared past she remembers. their phrasing kills me too, because iirc they say "busy with your friends" as if they don't count among that group. not "other friends" or "new friends" just. "your friends"
wherever there are family photos in the lighthouse, there are photos of Arin by themself and Arin with various combinations of the family members (and James)... birthdays, holidays, high school graduation, candids. the siblings' parents took them in as more than just an apprentice.
(and upon reuniting with their children, they were the least surprised out of everyone that their daughter had gotten together with her long-time best friend)
here are some ideas for what i might want the look of an EAA animated show to be like. i thought it’d be cool for the settings to look very distinct, to represent how one is full of fairytale magic and the other is mostly not.
first, the magical realm: highly stylized, line-based with vibrant and saturated hues, extensive use of watercolors. like a storybook come to life.
that might be a little outlandish, but hold on, i like this bit better: there’s Whitethorn looking slightly more typical—painterly, richly detailed, more realistically colored and lit...
maybe hazier and therefore less “real” in areas of high magic:
more solid and... “buttery”(??) in areas of low magic:
but overall still having a gorgeous, dreamy look throughout every area of Whitethorn
idea that came to me just now: perhaps once the spell is broken, we switch entirely over to the latter style to represent how the siblings have completely reincorporated their memories. they no longer see magic as something foreign or temporary but rather part of them and part of their worlds.

and i remembered there was a time before Arin existed. what a dark, cursed period.
it's currently summer... which means that Arin must be trying to read through the whole of Whitethorn's library during these next few months. godspeed, Arin.
on the one hand, EAA was never as popular as the older series, which is a gd shame because people are missing out
on the other hand, it seemed that most people who were into it really really loved it. and that's a sign of an amazing story
on the other other hand, if it had been given more and better advertising and more time to reach its audience, it probably could've been really successful
