That book review
So, I have read my first book of the year (yayyyyy) even though, I skipped to the end of the book before I was done reading (oops)
The title of the book is Her and is written by Harriet Lane. First off, I have to say, I don't know about everyone else but picking what books to buy is like picking what you want to do for the rest of your life. You pick up one, read the blurb and then put in down and the cycle continues. I went into the big waterstones on Oxford street hoping they would have a special section for foreign writers but nope, of course there wasn't. So, I scanned for hours trying to cross all the books I had on my list. Out of the five books, I wanted, they only hade one. Ghana must go by Taiye Selasi. I was a bit disappointed but I succumbed to Harriet Lane's Tantalizing words and bought HER.
The book is about two middle aged women who have crossed paths before. A horrible encounter which one has forgotten, the other not so much. Lane takes you through the two womens contrasting worlds, switching narrative from one to the other allowing you to get both sides of the story. A gripping read, you know what's coming in the end but you will never expect the depths of this revenge novel. I did not put the book down once and that it is how I recognise a good book anyway. GO OUT AND THERE AND BUY IT, COME ON YOU WON'T REGRET IT. NOT SURE WHY I AM SHOUTING BUT I AM.
