Caught in this reread of HtN that (Gideon atleast believes that) Ianthe fucking lied about not seeing Cytherea/Wake's corpse when Harrow found her underneath her bed and goddamn it compounded how fucking shitty it is to be Harrow the First. Imagine being schizophrenic but the society you're living in doesn't have the paradigm to understand or treat your schizophrenia and also you ACTUALLY have several ghosts haunting you and also you fucked with your brain to change your memory and perception of things and ALSO your coworkers keep gaslighting you and making you believe you're insane. John's bad enough but John atleast genuinely believed Harrow couldn't have gone into the tomb when he was gaslighting her about it. Ianthe was just doing for what? Shits and giggles? To increase Harrow's dependency on Ianthe as the only one who's really there for her? I love Ianthe but she is such a genuinely awful person who cannot be justified, merely understood.

UGH okay listen, I’m rereading tlt and I’m midway through Harrow but I remembered seeing a text post (I can’t find it!) about how at the end of GtN, the doors to drearburh open for Gideon or something and then in HtN, the doors to drearburh close for Harrow bc she can never go back and I was like “Wow! I didn’t even notice that!” ANYWAY halfway through rereading HtN Ortus spills the cats all over the floor or whatever and basically confesses that he knew what happened to his father and this sentence comes up after

Fuck it, it’s like 11pm and I haven’t taken my ADHD meds in like 3 days so I can’t get my thoughts in order without this being a novel but THATS GIDEON. That’s Gideon behind the doors of metaphorical Drearburh that Harrow fucking shut via self induced lobotomy trying to smash through because she’s a heathen and of course she’d try to brute force her way through Harrows psyche!! No one in the UNIVERSE can convince me otherwise

HTN SPOILERS/NTN SPOILERS

This post should help anyone whose confused at the end of Harrow the Ninth, who went where and how- but if you haven’t read Harrow or Nona SPOILERS.

I absolutely adore how Harrow the Ninth ends- probably because i LOVE Nona’s story so incredibly much and the set up between the two books is fucking EPIC.

We know Alecto soul comes for Harrow’s body as Harrows body sans Harrows soul is drowning in the river from the pressure of the stoma closing, expelling Gideon’s soul in the process:

Ianthe has just saved Jod from the jaws of hell- and while we dont have the perspective of how this happens— Gideons soul doesn’t go into her dead body to become Kiriona until Jod takes Gideons body back from BOE — but it can be assumed that Jod captures Gideons soul at this point for a later princely art project.

Now, the reason I wrote this post: I realized on this re-read that as Harrow settles her soul into Alecto’s sword within The Tomb we get the beginning of the dream/awake sequences that Nona/Alecto experiences as Harrow’s memories and Harrow experiences as Alecto’s memories in the river with John after he causes the apocalypse.

And it all gets going with THIS quote:

“Faraway in a land she had never travelled, Harrowhark Nonagesimus fell asleep, or dropped dead, or both.”

BECAUSE IT IS BOTH! Harrow’s body as Nona is sleeping, but her soul within Alecto’s sword in the tomb is not alive, she’s become a revenant.

Then @tazmuir gives us the epilogue banger at the end of HTN that opens into Nona’s life on New Rho.

Killing this post off with our favourite pool scene, with the promise that Harrow made Gideon swear to return to the tomb if Harrow ever died. AND SHE DOES IN NONA 😭 AAAAAAHHHHH! 💀🗡️
