My Best Friend's Wedding- 2nd ending
Rachel wrapped her coat tighter around her petite body. The harsh winter weather sending chills down her slim figure. Rachel smiled as she walked down the bustling streets. Everywhere she looked it was festive; the windows of shops were filled with tinsel and bright lights. She felt happy; it had been a good year. She was excited for Christmas like a 6 year old would be.
She pulled open the door to Top shop, looking at her feet as she walked in. She tumbled to the ground without a moment’s notice. ‘These bloody shoes!’ She thought, regretting buying what she first thought was a bargain from T.K.Max. Rachel huffed, examining her snapped heel on her right shoe.
“Excuse me miss, are you okay?”
Rachel looked up, her mouth slightly ajar; completely embarrassed that her tampons had fell out of her bag and were laid out on the floor. She nodded, thanking the elderly man as she got up and quickly put the contents of her bag back in. Rachel blushed, quickly scurrying off deeper into the shop; trying to avoid walking into anyone else.
Her fingers felt the soft black fabric of the jumper, debating whether she should be it for Jack or not. She picked up her size and continued her Christmas shopping. Everywhere she looked it was festive and decorated to the absolute max. It made her happy though, seeing everyone rush in and out of shops with their arms weighed down by shopping bags.
“Rachel?” She heard a hoarse voice from behind her. She turned on her heels but was unfazed as she looked at him.
“Harry.” She replied, giving a half-hearted smile. “How have you been?” She asked whilst leaning against a clothing rack.
“Really well thanks. I’m still with El, we had a little girl.” Harry smiled like a Cheshire cat.
“That great Harry, I’m honestly so happy for you. What’s her name?”
“Alana Grace.” Harry said failing to hide his forever-growing smile “How are you?”
“I’ve been brilliant thank you. I’m actually engaged this time.” She smiled, staring at the beautiful ring on her wedding finger.
“Who’s the lucky guy?”
“Jack Bradley.” Rachel felt her cheeks turn crimson as soon as she thought of her fiancé.
“It was great seeing you, Rach. You look good.” Harry smiled at her then walked off.
Rachel didn’t feel anything, she wasn’t numb but it hadn’t made her day the fact that she bumped into him. Rachel smiled to herself, she felt happy; she felt at ease. That was all she really needed; the comfort of knowing he was happy and that she was too.
Sorry for the wait guys, thank you for all the support whilst writing this. Sorry it's short and for not proof-reading this. To avoid any confusion, I've wrote two endings to this one shot series because I really couldn't decide how to end it. Thank you again. Requests are open, just inbox me a bit about yourself, your name (if you want) and your chosen scenario. Thank youuuuu xx
My Best Friend's Wedding- 1st Ending
Dear Harry,
Have you ever been into a shop and seen something that you want so badly but you know that you will never be able to have it for different reasons? It’s stupid, I know, but that’s how I think of you. I see you as this beautiful person that everyone wants but everybody knows that they could never have you, no matter how much they wanted you.
When you left, I wanted to cry so badly. But it was like I couldn't. I felt nothing. I just stood there thinking about how much my life will change if you’re not going to be around. I was destroyed. I didn’t know how I felt about it, I was angry at you and most of all upset. I don’t hate you, I just don’t like you. You lead me on and that wasn’t fair but we can’t change are actions. I kept thinking…maybe it was something I said or did. Maybe if I acted differently then this wouldn’t have happened we would still be friends.
I knew. I knew all along that you was still in love with El, I was in denial. I was too blinded by love to see that you were never mine in the first place. You told me a thousand lies but when I looked into your eyes I became blinded. I was blinded by your touch, by the look in your eye when you promised me the world. I guess I knew all along, I just didn’t want to see what was right in front of me.
I hope you’re happy and well. You deserve to be, after everything I wouldn’t want to see you sad. Where ever you are, I hope you achieve great things. I hope you realize that you. I hope you don’t repeat your mistakes, hold El close. Never let her go, she’s the mother to your children, treat her well. You only really ever love once, so make it count.
I guess when it finally was over it just came back in flashes. I couldn’t pin point the moment I fell in love with you but then again I couldn’t pin point the moment I fell out of love with you. I don’t know when or how but somewhere along the way I craved your attention, I think that’s how it started. I craved your attention more than I actually craved you. In the end, I was so used to seeing El have your attention and when I got it, well it wasn’t all I thought it would be.
I want to wake up next to you, eat breakfast with you, get changed with you, watching movies with you in bed, hold your hand and watch TV, send you cute texts, buy you gifts, nap together, wear your comfy hoody when I'm cold, look into your eyes, be with you at sunrise and sunset, cook for you, walk in the rain with you, fall asleep whilst on the phone to you, snuggle in bed, mess up your hair, kiss you goodnight, but you didn't want the same. And every now and again, I think of you and when I do I almost call you but every time I don’t; I almost do.
I regret seeing you get married, I wish I never went. Maybe then I would be feeling like this. Maybe your marriage wouldn’t be in pieces. Maybe I would actually love myself; maybe I wouldn’t be so empty.
From your Best Friend,
Rachel.
P.S. There is a huge difference between genuinely liking someone and liking the attention they give you and it took me a long time to realize that. And I guess a small part of me will always love you but love is not always enough.
In case people where wondering, I've wrote two ending because I really didn't know how to end it. Sorry it's so short. Thank you for all the support and feedback you've all given me whilst writing this. As usual, requests are open. Just tell me a bit about yourself (if you want), your name and your chosen scenario. Thank you so much guys x
My Best Friend's Wedding- PART FIVE
Rachel pulled herself out of her bed, groaning as someone kept banging on her front door. She opened the front door to her apartment, not impressed at the fact she had been woken up at 3am on a Monday day morning.
"Hello?" She asked annoyed, trying to wake herself up.
"Rachey!" A voice slurred.
"You're ridiculous." She sighed.
"You love me." Alex dragged the last word, his breath smelling of alcohol.
"Alex, this isn't fair. I have work in a few hours."
"But I wanted my bestie." Alex started laughing.
"You can stay, but shut up." Rachel opened the door wider for him and watched as he walked to the lounge and fell onto the couch.
His light snores filled her apartment as she filled up a glass of water. She put it on a coaster on the coffee table, sighing as she walked back to her own bed and tried to get to some sleep.
** Rachel yawned as she went through books and marked them. She had an hour lunch break with nothing to do and nothing to eat.
She looked up upon hearing a knock on her classroom door. Alex pulled a funny face at her through the small slit and then walked in. "You left your lunch on the counter so I brought it and got you a coffee." Rachel smiled as he put her lunch and drink on the table.
"Thank you." Alex said down next to her. She put the books away and said that she'd do it later. They sat in a comfortable silence and ate their food.
"I better go. Not everyone gets an hour lunch break like you." Alex said and then smiled cheekily.
"I'll walk you to the front office." Rachel locked her classroom door and they started walking towards the office.
"Sorry about last night." Alex apologized.
"Why did you get so drunk?"
"I needed confidence when I was on my date with Callum, I made myself look a like right idiot."
"I'm sure you didn't, Al, he's the idiot for not having an interest in you." Rachel said as they turned the corner.
"Oh fuck." Rachel said.
"What's up?"
"He's stalking me, I swear." Rachel sighed as they walked in the front office.
"Rachel! Alex!" El smiled brightly at them.
"What are you doing here?" Rachel said with a tight smile.
"We are looking at the baby play group here. Apparently it's great. What about you?" El said as she held Harry's hand. "I work here." She yawned and then apologized.
"Sorry baby, I didn't mean to keep you up all night." Alex winked at her, sending blood rushing to her cheeks.
There was a bit of tension for a minute that continued whilst Rachel spoke, "so why are you looking at baby groups?"
"For our little boy, Marcus." El said, Rachel's smile falling but she quickly recovered.
"That's lovely, how old is he?" Alex asked.
"Just over a year." El smiled.
"Congrats." Alex said with a smile, holding Rachel's hip tighter.
Rachel stared at the ground, suddenly becoming aware of the gaping hole she could never fill; the emptiness she felt in her heart whenever she saw a couple. He had a child, he had a child, he had a child. Rachel kept repeating it in her head, the idea of Harry being a dad completely crazy. She didn't know how to feel; she was angry that she was never told, angry at herself for missing the experience and just upset because it wasn't her.
"We should go to dinner, it would be great to see you again." El suggested as curled into Harry's side.
"Sure." Alex said with a hint of uncertainty in his voice.
"Tonight?" El asked.
"We'd love to." Rachel said as she tried to advert Harry's gaze. She wanted to never see him again, but at the same time she wanted to spend every minute with him and tell each other everything they missed.
El smiled sickly, "tonight at 6? We could meet you at Dallas's? It's Harry's favorite."
"That's great. See you later." Alex said before one of the school's head guided them out to the corridor. Rachel felt like she could finally breathe once they were out of eye sight.
"Why did you say yes?" Alex asked puzzled.
"I don't know." She shrugged, "I haven't got long of my lunch left and I need to get my classroom ready. Text me when your on your way to mine." They hugged briefly, Rachel then headed back to her classroom.
**
"I don't know If I can do this." Rachel said as she puffed out her cheeks.
"Look, Rach, you're going show him that you're doing good by yourself and that you're over him. Sweetie, you can do this." Alex pulled her into a hug, kissing her forehead, "Let's get this over and done with."
Rachel walked in with her fingers laced between Alex's, she never imagined she would be in this position with her gay best friend.
Rachel felt insecure as she saw El sat there looking perfect, with her obvious push-up bra and her flawless skin. El got up to hug them after thanking the waiter for their menu's.
"You look decent." El said as her eyes flickered downwards, most likely not liking Rachel's outfit. Rachel ruffled her hair awkwardly as El silently examined Rachel's choice of navy jeans with a white long sleeved top and her checkered top over it. El stood there in her knee length black dress and her sky scrapper heels. Looking like she came right from a photo shoot. She pulled away from her hug with El and saw the look in Harry's eyes as he shaked Alex's hand, it was brief and intense. "Rach." Harry said as he stepped aside to where she was standing, "Lovely to see you, again." He said as he wrapped his arms around her. She was awkward at first but softened at his touch.
"You too." Rachel said as she heard El clearing her throat. They took their seats and started flicking through the menu.
Rachel silently groaned while El eat her Lamb Shank, telling them the details of her's and Harry's honeymoon whilst she chewed the meat.
"It was great," She gushed "Where our little Marcus was conceived." She wriggled her eyebrows as she swallowed the food in her mouth.
"It was alright." Harry said afterwards, "So, Alex, tell me about yourself."
"Sounds like the beginning of the interview I had for my charity work." Alex smiled at the couple in front of him as placed his knife and fork neatly together on his plate.
Harry kept a straight face whilst Alex spoke. "Well, I'm from the South. I'm 26, and I met my lovely fiance at university. Almost two years ago."
Harry choked on his food, "Nearly two years ago?" He asked.
"Yes? It must of been shortly after you two tied the knot." Alex smiled innocently. Rachel couldn't and didn't want to see Harry's reaction was, so she kept her eyes focused on her empty glass of water in front of her.
Rachel felt her mood dip lower as El said to the waiter that they didn't want any alcohol because she was pregnant and Harry had to drive. She watched as Harry stared at his palms, his eyes shot up to hers when El mentioned she was pregnant. Rachel tried not to, but all Harry received was a cold icy glare from her.
"You're pregnant?" She asked as she tried to smile.
"Yes, I found out the day before your mother's BBQ." El smiled brightly.
"That's," Rachel paused for a moment, processing it all, Harry was happy and that's all the mattered. "That's great, we wish you all the best." El sat there, oblivious to the emptiness in Rachel's voice and to her how mood had clearly dropped.
"We should get going, I have work in the morning." Alex said, requesting the bill from their waiter.
"So soon?" El asked.
"Yeah, sorry. It's Monday and I'm tired." Rachel replied.
"Tired." Harry repeated, no one really paying attention to him. Rachel stared at him over the table, desperately wanting to turn her gaze away from his but she couldn't.
Alex put two 50's on the table, quickly saying good bye's to each other and false promises that they would meet up again soon. All lies, Rachel thought as they walked out of the over-priced restaurant. She looked back at the table they were sat at, Harry bold eye's looking right through her.
**
Rachel twisted the key in the lock and the opened the door. "I have something to tell you." Harry said barging past her and walking into the kitchen.
Rachel slammed the door and then followed him, "You can't just walk into my apartment Harry and you can't just turn up whenever you like." Rachel said firmly.
"I have something really important to tell you and I don't know how you're going to take it." Harry said, leaning against the counter.
"Just say it, I've had quite a few surprise's now to not get shocked easily." Rachel leaned against the door frame, thankful for wearing her long checkered pj's and a large jumper, "Not after what El said at dinner last Monday."
"Alex is cheating on you, I saw him as I was driving to pick up Marcus." Harry said as he walked over to Rachel, trying to hug her.
"Don't touch me." She spat, "He's not cheating on me."
"Look, Rach, I know it's hard to believe but he's not good enough for you." Harry said, getting the message that she didn't want him to touch her.
"What and you are?" Rachel said her expression changing dramatically.
Harry stood there silent, "He was too perfect, so I did some digging." Harry paused, "He's a cheater and he's a liar as well. He doesn't work for any type of charity." Harry said with a comforting tone.
"I know." She whispered.
"What?" Harry asked surprised.
"I know he doesn't work for a charity." Rachel awkwardly rubbed her hand up and down one of her arms.
"And you're still with him? You need someone that will treat you right!" Harry said, angry.
"Harry, I lied." She stuttered.
"What do you mean?" Harry stood against the counter, his face a mixture of emotions.
"I lied Harry, and god it's eating me away. I feel horrible, seeing you with a perfect wife and a son, another one on the way. You have an amazing job, everything is going for you." Rachel pursed her lips "And what do I have? I've been lonely my entire life, I'm a 26 year old who lives by herself and her social life is made up of marking books and making lesson plans." Rachel stared at the ground.
"You've always had me." Harry said as he walked towards her, lifting her chin so she was staring into his eyes.
"No harry, I don't." Rachel walked away from him, going to where he previously was.
"You know I love you."
"You're married." She stated the obvious.
"And I still love you."
"You can't say that to me!" She yelled, "You can't stand there and tell you love me because you have a wife! You're going to go home tonight and kiss your son on the forehead as he snores in his bed. You're going to hold your wife closely, with your arm wrapped around the bump that is soon to form. And me. Well I'm going to lie in a cold empty bed, by myself."
"Rach, wait for me." Harry said, his eyes filling with tears that he tried to blink away.
"Why should I? I'm not going to wait my entire life for something that may never come, Harry. I'm not going to waste my life like that. I won't be a home wrecker either." Rachel sighed.
"I can't believe you lied to me, Rach, I thought you were better than that." Harry said, disappointed.
"I can't believe I did that either. And I still can't get over the fact that you went away to uni and fell in love with someone else." Harry saw the hurt in Rachel's eyes as she spoke, her voice breaking towards the end. "Harry, it took me a really long time to stop feeling so hurt. Please don't put me back to where I started."
"Rachel, please, let me make this better."
"How can you make this better, Harry?" She shouted as a few tears escaped her tear ducts "Go on, tell me." She said as she wiped a tear away with her thumb.
"This." Harry said he walked over to her, he didn't give a second to think; he just grabbed her face and planted his lips against hers. There lips moved against each other's, their movements quick and desperate.
Rachel pushed him away, wiping her mouth. "Don't." Rachel said as Harry tried to comfort her.
"Rach, I'm sorry." He said.
"Stop calling me that!" She yelled.
"Why are you angry at me? I should be angry with you! You fucking lied to me Rachel! You lied to your entire family!" Harry said, a green vein popping out on his neck, "I should be angry at you." He whispered.
"Go then, Leave." Rachel said as she cowered into the corner, "If you're angry at me then stop talking to me. Go on, walk out that door right now."
"Rach, I can't." He said.
"Why not!" She demanded.
"Because I fucking love you, you idiot!" Harry shouted, "And you make everything about you, you're the sad case. The unhappy one, that one who sleeps alone. Well Rachel, open your eyes. You haven't asked me why I get drunk a lot, you haven't asked why I keep trying to see you. You don't ask, you just don't. It works both ways, get your head out of your ass and open your fucking eyes Rachel. Because I love you, and if you don't want to hear that then fine, but I don't know what else there is for us."
"What are you saying?" Rachel asked, her eye brows knitted together.
"I'm saying, If you don't tell me you love me, right now; then I'll walk out your door and I won't try to contact you."
"Harry." Rachel pleaded.
"No, tell me." Harry said firmly.
"I can't." Rachel said, she felt her knee's wobbling beneath her. She sinked to the floor, feeling stupid as she sobbed and cried to her heart's content.
Sorry, I haven't proof read it but I will at some point; hopefully tomorrow. Thank you for all the feedback. If you want to know when I've updated My Best Friends Wedding then I will make a list and message you when I've posted a part. Thank you.
My Best Friend's Wedding- PART THREE
Alex kept looking back and forth between Harry and Rachel, his eyebrows knitted closely together, “Rach can I talk to you for a sec please.” Alex asked.
"Sure." Rachel said as she set her cup of tea back on the counter. She followed Alex into the bedroom, shutting the door behind her.
"What are you doing?" Alex said trying to whisper.
"Harry." Rachel said, her eyes bulging.
"What?"
"Harry Styles."
It took a few seconds before it clicked, Alex’s eyes widening. “Shit.”
"Yeah, shit." Rachel mimicked, "I know this is ridiculous and I didn’t mean to say it but please just help me." Rachel said, desperation evident in her voice.
"Rach, why is he in his boxers?" Alex asked, a smirk on his face.
Rachel gasped as playfully hit is shoulder, “What type of girl do you think I am? He’s married Alex!” Alex smirked in return.
"Rach, honey, I can’t pretend to be your fiance. I’m gayer than gay." Alex said smiling.
"Please Alex! I can’t just go in and say that I lied!" Rachel said in a hushed voice.
"Fine, but I’m telling you now sweetie that this lie is just going to make a massive mess and you won’t be able to get yourself out of it."
"It’s fine, after today I wont see him again." Rachel said and then walked out; Alex following behind her.
"Here’s your clothes, mate." Alex said as he handed Harry his suit, acting tough.
"Look, mate, it’s not what it looks like." Harry said uneasy.
Alex walked over to Rachel and put his arm around her waist, pulling Rachel into his chest, “It’s cool man, I trust my girl.” Alex said, emphasizing ‘my girl’.
Harry nodded awkwardly. “I’m going to get changed.” Harry walked off trying to find the bathroom.
"You owe me big time." Alex whispered as he raided through her fridge.
Rachel finished off her tea whilst Alex swallowed the last of the orange juice that was in the carton.
Rachel set her glass down in the sink, almost dropping it as she heard a door shut.
"Flirt with me." Rachel whispered, clinging to Alex. Alex stood there frozen like a a statue.
Rachel huffed, “Put your hands on my bum.” Alex made a face of disgust but rested his palms on her bum anyway.
Harry’s eyebrows rose when he saw Alex pushed against the counter, Rachel’s body pressed against his; Alex’s hands were grabbing her bum. Harry cleared his throat awkwardly. Rachel turned around and stared at him, her cheeks red.
"I should go to work, I’m already late as it is. Thank you for looking after me last night." Harry said awkwardly.
"I’ll walk you to the door." Rachel said politely.
She lead him towards the front of her apartment. Rachel smiled at him as she opened the front door for him.
"Thank you Rachel, I appreciate it." Harry said, walking out of her apartment.
"It’s fine, Harry."
Harry smiled and began to walk towards the elevator, he stopped in his tracks and turned around facing Rachel.
"I don’t know my way back to my car." Harry said.
Rachel smiled lightly, “I’ll go get changed.”
Rachel closed the door to her apartment and went into her bedroom. She quickly stripped off her clothes and put on a fresh pair of lingerie. She grabbed a pair of light faded jeans and a burgundy jumper, dressing herself as she walked down the hall way.
Harry looked up at her smiling as she practically fell out of her apartment, trying to get her shoes on. He laughed quietly, still clumsy.
They stood in the elevator in silence, neither of them knowing what to say. Once they were out of the apartment block Harry started conversation.
"He seems nice." Harry stated.
"He’s lovely Harry, you’d really like him." Rachel said trying to keep cool. "How’s El?" Rachel asked timidly.
"Great, we’re great." Harry said with false enthusiasm.
"Great." Rachel said with a fake smile that didn’t quite reach up to her eyes.
"So what do you do now?" Harry asked as they turned the corner.
"As in work?" Rachel asked, Harry nodded, "I’m a teacher." Rachel beamed. She loved teaching, it was an aspiration she had since she was little.
"That’s fantastic Rach, I didn’t know you got your degree."
"Really? Your mum and Gemma came to my graduation. It was about two months after your wedding." It turned slightly awkward after she said that. Harry was annoyed, his mother didn’t even tell him. "How’s your job?" Rachel asked trying to shift the mood as they approached the bar.
"It’s brilliant. I’m the youngest CEO that the company has ever had. I’m getting an award for it soon." Harry smiled but it went as quickly as it came.
"Harry that’s incredible." Rachel smiled, but she was sad that she had missed so much.
They stopped next to his car, unsure of what to do or what to say.
"Thanks again." Harry said as he fished around for his keys in his pocket.
"Harry, honestly it’s fine." Rachel smiled lightly.
"Could I get your number?" Harry asked just as he was about to get into his car.
"Harry, I don’t think that’s a good idea."
"You’re right, sorry." Harry said as he awkwardly scratched his neck. "I better go, even the youngest CEO isn’t allowed to stroll into work whenever he likes." Harry smiled as he got into his car and buckled himself in. Harry pursed his lips, "I’ll see you around Rach." Rachel sighed as she pulled her jumper sleeves closer to her body and watched as he sped off down the road.
She began walking back up the hill to her apartment, it wasn’t long but it wasn’t something she planned to do on her day off from work.
She kicked off her shoes as she entered her apartment. “Did ya snog him?” Alex teased as she walked into the kitchen.
"Of course I didn’t Alex." Rachel smiled but it was bright and bold like Alex was use to.
Rachel smiled but it wasn’t bright and bold like Alex was use to.
"Honey, what’s wrong?" Alex said as he pulled her into a hug.
"He’s happy." Rachel said as Alex stared at her confused.
"That’s a good thing, isn’t it?"
"But he wasn’t happy to see me." Rachel said, "oh god, I don’t know how I feel."
"Your breath smells sweetie." Alex said, sending a quick smile to spread across her face.
**
"Why didn’t you tell me?" Harry said trying not to get annoyed.
"Harry, I didn’t think to. I know how El feels about Rachel, I just didn’t think it would be ok." Anne replied.
Harry huffed as he sorted out paper work on his desk.
"Harry darling, it wouldn’t of been fair on Rachel. Not on her day."
"And why didn’t you tell me she was engaged?" Harry asked, his tone turning from annoyed to upset; no matter how much he tried to sound normal.
"I didn’t know she was, Mel didn’t tell me sweetheart." Anne said in a comforting voice.
"She didn’t?" Harry asked puzzled.
"No, but sweetie I’m sure the guy is lovely."
"He’s alright, I guess." Harry said he stared at the photo of El and him that was on his desk.
"You’ve met him? I didn’t know you two still spoke to each other."
"It’s a long story, I’ve got to get back to work but I’ll see you soon mum." Harry said as he traced the outline of El’s face in the photo.
"Ok, I’ll see you at John’s. I love you Harry."
"I love you more, mum." Harry smiled as he put the phone down. He sighed as he stared at the photo. It was on their honeymoon, they were at the beach kissing.
Harry thought of Rachel again, he sighed and placed the photo flat down. Trying to rid both girls from his head.
