Hartsyard, Newtown
Definitely one of the more memorable eats of 2014 was at this bustling joint that's packed every single night. Be sure to make a booking ahead of time though they do leave a few seats for walk-ins at the bar. *blog is no longer on hiatus until mid Jan, I couldn't keep away haha Happy New Year everyone :)
Raw mushroom and artichoke salad - parmesan, black kale, citrus $25
Cocktails: Dem Appelz and Pash n Dash
Best salad of 2014. Can it still be classified as a salad if there's not a lot of greenery other than the kale chips? Haha. The slices of raw mushroom and artichoke doused in the cheesy buttermilk dressing was moreish. I could have eaten the whole dish myself! Mm salads are healthy, oh yes and there were crispy parmesan chips :D
Pulled pork, maple bacon, yoghurt, apple $33
A rectangular log of tender pulled pork and a slab of thick cut sticky maple bacon to garnish. Did I mention there was puffed pork crackling as well?! The tangy apple slices and dollops of yoghurt were a good accompaniment to the meaty haven.
Fried chicken, buttermilk biscuit, low country sausage gravy
Probably one of the biggest trends of 2014 and no doubt will continue this year as well, fried chicken! Generous pieces of golden crispy fried chicken with succulent meat but I did find the batter a little heavy. The buttermilk biscuit was like a savoury scone and soaked up the sausage gravy. The poutine was also a popular dish because hot chips are awesome particularly if they're smothered in a beer and cheese sauce.
Haha overflowing scoops of pretzel flavoured ice cream were melting as I was rushing to snap shots of this fudgey bowl of goodness. Fluffy balls of cinnamon sugar dusted doughnuts covered in the hot chocolate fudge were divine with the cold spoonfuls of ice cream.
HY soft serve
$14
Ah the infamous giant soft serve that has made a comeback thanks to
Chef Andy Bowdy
. The soft serve flavour changes frequently and that night we had a Milo x Malteser inspired soft serve which brought me so much joy. After everyone had their first spoonful, it quickly started to melt so we were racing to eat it before it became a puddle!
