I wrote this as Haruka being the big brother figure rather than him actually being related to you, but you can imagine either!
Haruka is already used to being a good big brother (only in spirit atm ) so this is right up his alley!
If it’s not biologically, you were probably the first one to see your guys’ relationship as something akin to siblings- as he has some.. bitter thoughts about this whole sibling thing sobs
After you called him your brother on accident one time- because let’s be real, you’re probably an idiot- he kind of started thinking more about the idea and- even if he was caught of guard by it at first- started liking it over time
Deep down he’s really protective over you! Oh, there’s a person bothering you? Then you can be sure he’s going to tell them to piss off. Someone said something bad about you? You best believe he’s going to tell them they’re so wrong
He’s really supportive as well!! Not that he will outright show it though. If you ever need help with anything, like studying, any kind of instrument or sports he will teach you everything you need- even if he’s complaining at first. Secretly he enjoys and even prides himself in being specifically asked by you for help- but never point that out to him or he will get red and tell you to shut up
Speaking of things that would make him embarrassed if you ever pointed it out, he would totally share his hobbies and little enjoyments with you- like getting you to watch tokusatsu shows with him and going out to eat ice cream. He’s really happy he finally has someone to share all his interests with- though he was really hesitant to bring them up at first- you kinda had to make him speak up about it lmao
Would sometimes proudly smile at you like a big brother and maybe even give you head pats in rare moments... treasure them because they won’t happen often
The bright lights glimmered over the water of the indoor pool gym. The sounds of Haru swimming echoed in the empty stadium. It felt so big from where you sat by the edge of the pool with a towel over your lap. The way he glided in the water made it look so easy and smooth, as if the water moved with him instead of against him. He often told you or gave you the same response whenever you asked him what it was like to swim.
“It feels free,” was always his final response. The moon was high into the night sky, but it felt early despite the actual time. You noticed Haru coming around the same time each night this week, but stayed later and later every passing night. He didn’t swim routinely as if it was his practice, but he did it to do whatever he wanted in the water, swimming as slow or as fast as he wanted.
You wore an oversized Hidaki university hoodie and some shorts beneath. He swam up to the pool’s edge and stood, taking deep breaths as he yanked off his cap and goggles. With a swift jump and hoist with his arms, he stood dripping from the water. You stood up to meet him and handed him the towel.
“Done for the night?” You asked, a little surprised since it was actually earlier than yesterday.
“I think so...” he rubbed his hair with the towel.
You stifled a yawn and you stood, fiddling with your fingers. But you figured losing an hour or two wouldn’t hurt you, especially since your classes tomorrow were at a later time so you could easily sleep in a little more.
“You really didn’t have to come, Y/N. If you want you could start to head back now? You don’t have to wait for me.” He rubbed your shoulder, adjusting your hoodie with the other. A light wave of heat spread through your chest hearing this. Did he really not want you there? You brushed the thought away, not jumping ahead of yourself.
“No, it’s okay. Let’s go back together...” you hesitated to start the next part. “I feel like... you’ve been very distant lately... so I wanted to spend time with you...” You felt your ears heat up as you kept your eyes down, playing with your fingers as he stood still before you. He took a step closer and you suddenly felt his force against you as he wrapped his arms tightly around you. You stood frozen for a brief moment until you gently wrapped your arms around his back. Haru didn’t often initiate acts of affection like this- he eased into it more especially when the two of you were alone like in each other’s dorms or houses.
He had been so caught up with school, studying and swim and friends outside, and now that you were also in his life, he struggled a little to keep up with everything in a balanced way. “I’m sorry,” he sincerely said. He readjusted his arms, snuggling his face into your shoulder. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to and I didn’t mean to sound like I was pushing you away.” His words from literal moments ago flashed into his mind. As college students, it was a mere step away to the real world where sometimes sleep won’t be so easy to come by.
“It’s okay, I know you didn’t.” You rubbed his back revealed by the towel he now loosely held around him. “I’ll always be here if you wanna talk about whatever, but that’s the thing- talk to me.”
“I will,” he sighed remembering back in high school when he kept his feelings and thoughts to himself. “Let’s go back together.” He pulled out and slipped his jacket over his bare body, sliding on his pants as well.
The two of you walked back towards your dorm with linked pinkies, using the time to let Haru talk about all the stresses of his classes as the work began to pile and how he needed to improve his times for matches. You listened intently and offered suggestions for swim but more tips and advice for the classes and workloads. You were more of an academic student as he was an athlete, but the two of you made a great duo as you were able to introduce him to new things and vice versa. The both of you learned how nice it was to have someone who cared for you for who you were, not what made you who you were.

Pairing: Haru X Reader (gender neutral) ft. Makoto
Genre: angst ;(
Author’s Note: the angst train don’t stop
Warning: death
The dark clouds rolled in the sky, stirring up the wind and the ocean. Haru watched the waves crashed one after the other against the rocky cliff side in his black suit. His emotions overwhelmed him as he sat there, throwing rocks into the water. He got up, standing near the cliff looking around. Nothing felt right.
Makoto appeared on the hill in his own suit seeing Haru pace back and forth, struggling to find things to throw. Frustrated, Haru sat back down away from the cliff, sitting in the center of an open clearing. He approached his best friend and put his hand on his shoulder, receiving a semi-startled look. The redness in his eyes were clear as well as the puffiness of them. Tears brimmed his best friend’s eyes, never seeing him so distraught in his life.
“I thought you went home after the service but when I stopped by, you weren’t there,” Makoto cautiously spoke. “You disappeared so quickly.” It was true. As soon as the ceremony ended, Haru was suddenly gone, nowhere to be seen. He couldn’t stand being there on such a gloomy day when you were the brightest light that shined in his life. When he went home, he felt like an intruder. Whatever he tried to do never felt right and it slowly killed him from the inside. “Are you okay?”
Anger, sadness, grief, regret, his emotions were boiling within him and this single question seemed to have been the tipping point. “Am I okay?” He asked with such a spiteful tone in his voice. “No, Makoto. Nothing in my life feels right anymore. Nothing feels the same.” He held his friend closely by the collar letting his anger pour out of him as tears rolled down his face. “I won’t be okay,” he broke. He rested his forehead against his best friend’s chest who could only imagine the pain he felt of losing someone as significant as you to Haru.
It felt like a hole was beginning to burn from the inside of his chest, like a piece of paper, it was burning from the center, consuming the edges from the inside out. His whole life shifted, tilting. He remembered suddenly hearing nothing when he had got the call from your parents about the accident you were in. The phone fell to the floor and bile was suddenly rising from his stomach, burning his throat.
Makoto wrapped his arms around his friend, letting the emotions he never showed flow out of him like water down a drain. Haru’s cries were muffled into his shoulder as he wrapped his own arms around Makoto. It hurt so much, he didn’t know how to make it stop.
If he didn’t invite you over. If the driver paid attention to the traffic lights instead of speeding through them. If you denied his invitation, you would have lived another day. You would have been able to do so much in your life and Haru felt like he had ripped that away from you. His parents assured you it wasn’t his fault but the voice in his head haunted him. “No matter who comes into your life will always end up getting hurt...”
