Kanae didn’t seem to show any romantic interest for Hotaru until after their race against each other. And they had been best friends since the start of high school and that was a long time. She looked genuinely surprised with what she seemed to feel when Hotaru put her blazer on her and caressed her cheeks. I’d like to think that was her bisexual awakening and she realized that may be she had always had romantic feelings for her best friend.

Haruka seemed to have a good life. He had good grades, good career, and popular with the ladies. But he didn’t seem to care for any of it. He said it himself that despite his achievements he had always felt lonely, and that he only cared about Haruki.

Okay, this song can also fit Hotaru and Matsuoka in a way, but when I hear this song, I’m reminded of the time Hotaru ran toward Haruki when he was crying during the festival to comfort him and encourage him to go back to the team. I think this song fits this pair better. Especially when at the end of that particular chapter, he glanced at her, as if realizing that he wouldn’t be here with his teammates and gained his confidence again if it wasn’t for her. And even after that, Hotaru continued to cheer for him and give him emotional support, convincing him that he’s stronger and better than he thought he was. In turn, he too fell even harder for her.

Ichi used to be a lonely girl who never had any friends or anyone close to her. It was only after Midori approached her that she started to open up. She was very cold and harsh toward others because people did not want to approach her and those who did were only men who lusted for her body. Midori being the first person to approach her with kindness was what changed her. She started to smile more often and become more cheerful, though usually only in his presence.

Does it need more explanation? Midori may treat him badly and give him punishments as much as he liked, but Fujimoto would still love him. He’s a true masochist after all. He even let Midori used him as a chair. And he always mistook Midori’s vile action as an act of kindness. Like when Midori said he found a new toy, Fujimoto thought he was talking about finding a new kohai. When Midori said to play along with their opponents strategy, he thought Midori was being kind when in fact he only wanted to give them hope only to crush it in the end.

Poor Yukki was pining for Mattsun while Mattsun pined for Midori. He was there to comfort Mattsun when he broke off with Midori, but Mattsun was still obsessed with Midori without realizing that Yukki had always stayed by his side the whole time it happened. I’d like to think that one of the reasons Yukki hates Midori (other than the fact that he hurt Mattsun) was because he felt inferior to him. Midori was better than Yukki in many ways. He’s stronger, smarter, more handsome. He was a popular doctor while he was a shut-in mangaka.  Naturally Mattsun was more attached to Midori than Yukki.

Midori and Matsuoka met when Matsuoka was about to kill himself. The later than decided to leave his hand in the former’s hand, and the former taught him about survival game, giving him a new reason to live. In a way he prevented him from committing suicide, though his method was rather questionable. Matsuoka was grateful and got attached to Midori. They were good friends for a long time until Midori decided to break it off. But looking back, even Matsuoka had already detected that there was something strange with Midori from the moment they met, but he was too desperate to think clearly back then. He even admitted that when he decided to put his life in Midori’s hand he was “digging his own grave”.

Matsuoka was genuinely confused when he felt romantic feelings for Hotaru for the first time since he still thought she was a boy back then. To the point that he’s questioning his own sexuality. He kept denying his feelings. Every time Hotaru made him flustered, he kept telling himself he was straight. He looked really upset when he saw Hotaru and Midori kiss in the onsen. It seemed to make him realize he’s in deeper than he thought with Hotaru, that it was more than just a “crush” with her.

I think Midori is genuinely interested in Hotaru because of how strong and unpredictable she is. He was quite neutral and nice to her until their first fight. His reaction when he witnessed her bloodlust alternated between fear and excitement. You might even said he got turned on by it. She challenged him in many ways, whether it was her frightening fighting skills or her unpredictable actions (bringing her gun to the hospital to challenge him, kissing him in the onsen). He tried to blackmailed her to kiss him but he didn’t expect her to go for it. He even admitted, while laughing, that he “totally lost to her”. He couldn’t keep up with her, and I think he likes that about her.

I can't stop shipping HARUTARU,most likely because they're always so cute and funny together and usually the closest duo in Toy Gun Gun and are the one duo that spend time together the most and have the most interactions usually since Haruki appeared,before was Masamune who had the most interactions with Hotaru. Their relationship is funny,cute and sweet and it can be seen Haruki have feelings to Hotaru but then...we know she won't end up with anyone of the series (cries) because the series will likely end whe she goes to America (cries again). What do y'all think?

I feel like Hotaru feels so confortable to be cute when she is with Haruki, maybe because they're around the same age?(Hotaru is 17-18 and Haruki is 20-22) They act like little cute kids together and she loves to hug Haruki apparently because it's not the first time Hotaru hugs Haruki. I absolutely love to think Hotaru hugging Haruki as an habit of hers that end up developed hehe

The Sundowns Eternal Wish

Hello! So I wrote a fanfiction about Harutaru, it's quite short and it's a one-shot but it's really cute. English is not my first language so please if there's any mistakes don't feel uncomfortable to tell me 💕

THE BURNING LOVE OF HEARTS

Her shiny and blonde hair was imerged in the fragile sand of the sea meanwhile its owner peacefully observed the blue sky. Beside her, there was a young man with a opaque brown-like hair and eyes who couldn't find a way to look away from the girl's energetic expressions as they kept talking at how warm it was that day, mid of that year's summer.

The young man slowly laid down on the sand trying to understand what was so enigmatic to his friend's eyes. Hotaru turned her head to the right and slowly moved her whole body to the same direction. The wind was almost non-existent but yet it was notable its light touch in their skin. While Haruki looked to the sky, Hotaru was now the one not being able to take her eyes from the young man beside her.

— Haruki-san, Tachibana is happy we're here together — She said brightly as memories of that day they were spending together came once again in her head, without noticing her friend's red face as he put his arm on the top of his face to hide the obvious feelings that could not longer be hidden in his heart. He wanted to be always with her and it was impossible not to dream to hear her voice as soon as he couldn't see her daily. — Haruki-san? Are you alright?

— Don't worry, it's nothing...I just... am happy to be here too, with you, Masamune and Yukimura but I want to say something to you — Hotaru changed her laying position sitting yet falling a bit more towards Haruki while he stayed in same position as before and not taking his arm away from his face. He was scared but this was his last chance to tell his precious friend his heart's deepest feelings for her before she leaves Japan once again.

While he was fighting with himself in between his own doubts and courage, Hotaru impatiently waited to hear more of his voice. Her heart was shaking as a bell is moved by a storm, she wanted to know but deeply inside her heart she already knew what he was trying to say to her. For so long since the moment she left Japan for the first time, it was undoubtedly clear her desire to be with him and how deeply her heart asked to see the brown haired boy every day more passionately. She fell in love before she even could understand what her heart was telling her but that love were followed by the uncertainty of the distance between them, the ocean that created the biggest obstacle in Hotaru's heart.

The silence took presence between the young couple, making Hotaru even more uncomfortable and impatient waiting for Haruki's voice. He couldn't say a word, there wasn't enough words to express his love for the blonde girl who stood right in front of him and scared of losing the sweetness of her love. His eyes were closed and the pain in his heart hit him even stronger by every second that it went by. Hotaru couldn't wait any longer, she wanted to hear him but she knew the person she loved and thus with a burning red face of shyness she took slowly Haruki's arm from his face making the brown haired boy open his eyes and stare into Hotaru's emerald eyes.

— Haruki-san, Tachibana fell in love... — Yet hesitant Hotaru began to talk, breaking the silence while Haruki couldn't believe in his own ears. All the doubts in his head began to vanish faster than a raindrop falling in the waterfall and then the deepest feelings in his heart merged with the courage that came from his love's words. As soon he heard such words, his arms took Hotaru by surprise once her waist felt surrounded bringing her closer to him. Their skin started to warm up each other as love were in every inch of their body. — Haruki-san?! T-t-tachibana....

— I love you — that was enough for Hotaru to have her heart melt by his words which were said so strongly but yet shy that her body relaxed instantly being over his, surrounded by his arms.

The heart's warmth that united them, the now unshakable wind that couldn't separate their body and the ocean that now proudly filled the silence with its sounds of happiness together were the witnesses of the young couple's mutual confession of love. Slowly Hotaru closed her eyes letting every inch of her body feel more deeply the love of the person she wished to be with for so long, holding onto the boy's shirt softly meanwhile Haruki kept her in his arms still not believing that person that entered slyly in his heart was finally in his arms and felt the same burning love as him. The sundown finally came taking the now lovers's wish for the day never to end but that day was only the first day of a love that would last until their last breath of life.
