“Well, I asked the doctor if I could see you It's bad for your health, he said Yes, I disobeyed his orders I came to see you, but I found him there instead You know, I don't mind him cheatin' on me But I sure wish he'd take that off his head Your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat.”

Every night at Studio 54 was a party, but some nights were particularly special. The New York discotheque hosted annual events for holidays like Halloween, New Year’s Eve, and Valentine's Day, often building extravagant decorations on the scale of theater sets. It was also a venue for more exclusive events, including celebrity birthdays, the launch for Andy Warhol's "Interview" magazine, and even a movie premiere for the 1978 musical "Grease." Guests could be counted on to create costumes that took avant-garde fashion to the next level, and these events heightened the sense that anything was possible at Studio 54; on that dancefloor, you could be whoever you wanted to be.
Tap into this energy and creativity for whatever Halloween plans you have today. And see Studio 54: Night Magic, before it closes November 8!

Never-Before-Published Photos of Studio 54 From a New Book (NSFW) -2015
While there's not much to be said about Studio 54 that hasn't been said before, we'll always be captivated by photos from the legendary discotheque.
Studio 54 (Max Ström), features never-before-published photos of the club by Swedish photojournalist Hasse Persson. In an introduction to the book, Persson describes the method he used to capture the swirling lights and frenetic movement on the dance floor ("[I used] a flash to freeze the subject at the same time as I kept the shutter open for up to 30 seconds") and shares anecdotes about the notorious sex, drugs, and long lines that made the place famous. Of particular interest is his quote from Andy Warhol that originally appeared in the artist's 1979 book, Exposures, that describes the "five best ways to cut through the line." Warhol wrote:
1. Always go with Halston or in Halston.
2. Get there very early or very late.
3. Arrive in a limo or a helicopter.
4. Don’t wear anything polyester, not even your underwear.
5. Don’t mention my [Andy Warhol’s] name.
Though it's been 35 years since anyone tried to use these tactics to get into Studio 54, Warhol's advice is still pretty damn timeless. (Although we'd have added that it never hurts to arrive on a horse.)

I went to an interesting photo exhibition at the Nordic Museum in Seattle. It featured the work of Swedish photographer Hasse Persson. He’s a prolific photojournalist, but he’s also known for taking pics at Studio 54 which was a famous club from the 70s. I was too young for that era but I’ve always been fascinated by 70s culture.
Iconic profile photo of Alfred Hitchcock.
Hasse Persson took photos of celebrities and non-celebrities, political figures and many others. I love this photo of Muhammad Ali.
Larry Hagman played JR Ewing in the 70s to 80s tv show Dallas.
