A Victorian Hat Pin in Blue Willow Design. Not only were they functional, ladies used them as weapons for self protection.

Jughead "Genesis"
It is a sign of shifting comic book fan magazine press that the third iteration of "Jughead is a lady's man now" has some letters bouncing about and coverage, the second iteration has a few snickering letters, and this first one -- nothing. The question of -- to what extent has Archie buried this? -- followed by -- what was Archie thinking and doing here? They did want letters!
This story is not republished, never. And nor is anything else in this curious issue. What is strange is that in the broad "ready to reprint anything!" statement from Archie on how they do the digests, they did throw out a couple stories in this couple months, pointless and dreadful, builds up nowhere -- Archie's dad commenting on this new Jughead as he romances multiple chicks on the phone -- The End. Meanwhile, in "Pep Digital" land, with themed collection for "Jughead Romance", we are not going to touch this. They will that third iteration of the late 1980s -- though those had gotten adjusted, softened, in digest reprints.
The "Magic hat pin" gets drawn in its codified version by Samm Schwartz. Dan Decarlo and Dan Decarlo Jr do not know what they are drawing. They will get it straightened in the next batch of magic hat pin stories for 1982-1983. In digests, square jaw Jughead walks around in a few reprinted normal stories where nothing is remarked on, and the hat pin gets altered back in few others. Incoherence grows in some altered stories where it is the premise.
Really pounding the word "sexy" hard.
From random quips from various corridors online, "so right then at the moment of the AIDS crisis, Archie felt the need to assert the heterosexuality of their queen Jughead character." Probably a flippant statement -- not the usual argument of characterization, and they would probably stick to it and wonder why someone would cloud in details of history from, of all things, Archie Comics. As is, Square-jawed Jughead makes his initial proto-appearance in a 1972 dream sequence.
@ftm-will-graham here you go. Was a little later than I thought 1912 but it was definitely happening in the Victorian era too

This is SUCH a good article on fashion history and the only downside is that I desperately want hatpins now
