I’m one of three melanated lifesteal fans to ever exist so I feel like I have more of a say on this but the way white people in the fandom talk about racism pisses me off so bad. Half of the fandom is blatantly racist and all the other half does is virtue signal about how everything is racism. You can’t even portray black people in violent or unflattering ways without some yt person saying it’s racism. No, calling a black man messy or unorganised isn’t racism, calling every black man you meet messy is racist but black people can be just as violent and just as lazy as white people.
Black characters can be flawed, it’s Lifesteal and unstable universe but white people think they’re allowed to call people racist for portraying a flawed black character. I saw a post where it was something about Wemmbu using a ton of products and Flame using a 3 in one shampoo and people were calling it racist. The same post has been made hundreds of times about two white people but the second anyone involves a black man it’s racist. I know black people who use the bare bones hair products, they exist and it’s actually really weird to act as if they don’t.
None of these people even care about racism and I’m convinced of it, because it’s always black characters that they never let be portrayed in this light, even when it’s the same way white characters get shown in and they never have any comments about Ash or Derapchu, or any other Asians. The way they call every single black person a ‘person of colour’ also annoys me. So many black people have expressed that they don’t want that term to be used as a replacement of black, black people are people of colour but saying ‘the way some people of colour get their hair texture and styles changed is bad’ or anything annoys me. Just say black, it isn’t a slur, you’re clearly referring to black people.
sorry, for the rant but the way white people constantly label anything as racism is actually really damaging and enforces limits on how you can show certain characters even when it’s fine to show a flawed black character. They also constantly talk over actual black ppl when it comes to race issues.
