I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT ADENA!! First of all, adena isn't even an actual persian name. And episode 1.08 had her wearing a shirt with like no sleeves on when that contradicts the point of the hijab. Her whole cleavage was showing while praying. And people in the fandom as well dismiss her persian identity. Everyone is like " A QUEER MUSLIM " which yes is great within itself but let's not forget that she's a PERSIAN lesbian muslim. There's a shitton of problems with adena but it's an effort

I didn’t know about adena not being a persian name, but it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. when it comes to introducing diversity of the middle eastern and/or muslim variety on american shows, they tend to be fall short. case in point - the fact that the costume department clearly doesn’t consult with an actual hijabi when making decisions about what adena should wear. people don’t understand what makes the hijab important and different and the true meaning of it and that’s a real shame because the people defending the show misguidedly construe our criticism as homophobia - when it actually has nothing to do with her sexuality whatsoever. 

and yes. I do feel like they don’t focus on the iranian aspect enough. they just portray iran as this big scary place that adena doesn’t want to go back to, and maybe that’s fair enough given that iran doesn’t look kindly on homosexuality. but it should be about more than that. that was where adena grew up, presumably, at least until she was a teenager. and it was nice that we had her speaking farsi to kat - it was sweet, but I would have liked to see more iranian culture in her character like her being a shia muslim for example which is most likely what she is given the majority of iran is shia. but instead she is portrayed as more generic watered down muslim and I hate that. she deserves better. we deserve better. 

I get that they’re trying. but I feel like they’ve brought this upon themselves and dug a hole for themselves by introducing a lesbian muslim character who they have no idea how to write and with very little research or consultation with actual hijabi muslims. we’re seeing things from the non-muslim lens and that’s what frustrates me.

It’s weird how these rumors about this bradley guy came out of nowhere but I wouldn’t believe them. Chris chibnall is very secretive he wouldn’t let it leak. And they’d do a big announcement for the companion. I wouldn’t expect the announcement to happen until like november or december honestly. They’re just rumors

i’m inclined to agree (and the Mirror is NOT a trustworthy source)

finally! Aladdin is middle eastern, so they should cast someone middle eastern, period. Why is that so hard for people to understand

buy they did right, though! they called for exclusively west asian actors who can dance and sing but..... hmm. apparently now they're struggling to find leads. I wonder if they're searching for already famous faces and you don't need that! the story is famous, hire some beautiful and talented young people and the story will carry it and as a result we'll get two wonderful new actors to dote on.
