Can mutants be made or are they always born? Let's say that someone became a mutant somehow. Would you still accept them? Or would you look down on them since they weren't born with it.
Mutations manifest at different ages and, I have come to understand, with different triggers. Some mutants are born with their gifts manifested -- especially those with physical mutations, it seems -- and others seem to require some form of upheaval to trigger the more cerebral mutations. It doesn't mean that those whose mutations manifested later are less mutant than their brothers and sisters who were born exercising their gifts; it simply means that they were dormant until then.
I don't understand why anyone thinks that I -- or the Brotherhood by extension -- would look down on another mutant because of the nature of their mutation. You're all rather missing the point of the Brotherhood.
Any mutant is welcome within the fold of the Brotherhood, whether they were born with their mutation or it took them forty years to realize their gift.
I have yet to meet a mutant who was successfully "created," though I have seen... attempts. So, thus far, I will say: no, mutants cannot be created.
