May 30th: Twin Bridges Orphanage
Waking up a little worse for wear and majorly hungover, in Lincoln - we continued on our journey. The bartender, Erin, told us about the Netflix Series being shot up in Lincoln, about the infamous Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski. She was an extra and had mentioned the night before that they had re-built the actual cabin. Pointing us in the direction, but not knowing exactly where - we decided to see if we could spot it. We almost found it too! Continuing along the rainy-day road, back to Deer Lodge, we passed the other hungover construction workers we had partied with the night before. At this moment a rock flew up and smashed my windshield wiper clean off my car. We pulled over and exchanged the passenger wiper for the drivers side. The squeaking of the vacant wiper arm made the most unbearable screeching sound, so I MacGyver‘d my panties around the arm and we were off (pink La Senza tag flapping in the wind). Dlynda and Tammy are from Dillon, MT - which is close to a town called Twin Bridges. Just outside the town is an old haunted Orphanage that they had always wanted to check out, but had never had the chance to see. Although there was the question of - if we would actually be allowed on the property - we decided to take the chance. So with my panties on my windshield we were off! Driving into the large property gates we were in awe as multiple decrepit buildings welcomed us. A man named Dwayne was nice enough to point us in the direction of the owner, who was at the Blue Anchor bar in town. We drove to the bar and asked where she was, but the bartender had told us we had just missed her. After a Bud and some shake-a-day’s ( a dice game played in the States for progressive $ pots or drinks - depending on how many you can get of the same number - kinda like Yahtzee ) we went back to the orphanage. I walked up to the owners house and was met by Leslie Adams. I told her where I had come from, what I was doing on my trip and that my friends from Dillon pointed me in her direction. She told us we were welcome to walk around and we were actually allowed to enter two of the more solid structures. I couldn’t believe our luck!!! Walking around the property you can feel the eyes on you from every looming structure. About halfway through the tour a giant thunderstorm drifted into the grounds. Lightning and thunder set the creepy scene, as we explored the old dorm buildings - you couldn’t have created a more perfect time to be in the old orphanage if you tried. It’s moments like these that prove to me I’m on the right path. This is what I’m meant to do. It’s pretty clear now.... Tammy and Dlynda had decided to wander over to the second dorm, but I wasn’t done in the other one yet. Alone and separated from the others I ventured upstairs into weird dark room with no windows. The roof beams were all exposed - as the room’s ceiling was missing and as I panned up I was grabbed by something I caught on video. I also had some electrical interference while filming, but that could have been from the storm. One of the buildings we couldn’t go in had a broken window and as I shouted in, “Who’s there?” A man answered back with the EVP, “A broken man.” Once the storm had passed we hopped into the car and we drove back to Butte to drop off Tammy and Dlynda - after all I had a karaoke date with destiny in Deer Lodge.
