40 Years Ago. Vermont passed a House Resolution to protect the Lake Monster, Champ. To this day. Both NY and VT still protect Champ. Back in the 1770's Jonas Galusha of Vermont wanted to win the election so badly that he thought if he could capture with search parties, "Old Slipperyskin". It would lead to his winning. The Widow Krieger is known as the only Vermont Witch Trial. Mrs. Krieger was accused of “possessing extraordinary powers”. Prove innocence they used the dunking chair method. Thrown in the Hoosic River. If she sank, innocent. Floated, it was said to be Satan himself helping her. Story goes she sank to the bottom and had to be rescued, and was subsequently acquitted.
