Essential HVAC Components for Efficient Building Systems
Modern HVAC systems consist of several critical components that work together to maintain indoor comfort and maximize energy efficiency in today’s buildings. Ductwork forms the backbone of air distribution, ensuring that conditioned air is effectively delivered to and from different spaces with minimal leakage or loss. Air Handling Units play a central role by conditioning and circulating air; they house filters, coils, and fans that clean, heat, cool, or dehumidify air before it enters the duct system. Chillers and boilers provide the primary sources of cooling and heating, respectively. Chillers remove heat from the building to supply chilled water for cooling, while boilers generate hot water or steam for heating needs. To fine-tune comfort at the room or zone level, Variable Air Volume (VAV) boxes regulate the amount of airflow supplied to each area, reducing energy waste by delivering only what’s needed.
