Wrathion probably isn’t going to present himself as a dragon for you. Whilst it’s his true form and the one he’s most comfortable in he is, as always, hiding. From the Reds, from Old Gods, from everyone. Whilst he doesn’t always hide the fact he’s a dragon (whilst I give him horns, unlike the game, his eyes are such a giveaway anyway), nor the fact he’s a Black if you press him on the matter, that doesn’t mean he’s going to outwardly show you. Really, unless he’s making to leave you’re probably? Not going to see it? Unless you somehow back him into fighting you, but like don’t do that.

He really isn’t above using other appearances to hide himself, and whilst the human-esc one we see primarily is most certainly his default, most certainly part of his perceived identity, that’s not going to stop him assuming an entirely different race or guise if it suits him. If it keeps him hidden, if it keeps him safe.

Presenting himself as his true form really only tends to lead to outrage, fear, and hostility and whilst he doesn't resent these reactions (they’re justified given his flight’s actions, given his own actions) it doesn’t mean he wants to deal with it. Added to the ridicule he’s liable to face due to his draconic form being so young and it’s just easier to hide; something he’s spent the entirety of his life hiding, so what’s a little more?

Just because I write him as holding an open alignment to the Alliance doesn’t really mean he’s stopped hiding, because he hasn’t. He still spends a vast majority of his time travelling, ferreting out secrets, and looking to find solutions to the problems he wishes to solve. Wrathion is a creature who lingers in the shadows, ultimately finding this as his point of belonging in the world.
