          A question which seems simple, yet complicated at the same time. It requires an answer that’s much the same, one that Ryan has to think about for a long moment before voicing into coherent words. “I just want... someone who understands me. Who I can feel comfortable with, where I don’t feel like I have to... hide certain parts of myself, or change who I am...

          ”We don’t have to be alike in every way, or even at all- I can appreciate someone’s differences, but... I’d like for them to appreciate mine, too, y’know? It’s nice to learn to love things you might not have ever even considered before, to share those experiences with someone you deeply care about. A person who’s willing to compromise and try new things sounds nice... It’s what I’d do for them.

          ”But, I mean- I don’t have some long list of standards a person HAS to meet, or anything like that. As long as I can feel at ease, like I really belong in a way that feels... right. I just want to be able to laugh and have fun with somebody, to feel safe with them, and- and to feel loved...” He breaks off with a soft chuckle, hunching his shoulders slightly. “Well... I guess that’s sort of what everyone wants, isn’t it?”

           well, the wake had been a disaster. as soon as the yelling started, amy elbowed her twin lightly and gestured with her head towards the stairs so they could leave quietly. not only because the heavy amount of feelings was starting to affect her --- and her sister too, without a doubt --- but also because it was bullshit. it was fucking OFFENSIVE that they couldn’t even chill out at gabe’s funeral. and she didn’t have to take it.

          as soon as they were upstairs, she locked the door behind them and crossed her arms close to her chest. out of everyone, she could always tell what her sister was feeling. all the time. whether it was strong or soft, good or bad. but at that moment her own feelings were mixed up with hers in a big swirl. 

          ❝ that was bullshit, right? what mac said. i mean... we HEARD gabe saying that he called it off. he wouldn’t lie. ❞

          It’s simply no exaggeration that the cake before him is one of the coolest things he’s probably ever seen. Not only absolutely PERFECT for himself in his particular outdoorsy lifestyle, but so cleverly creative that surely anyone would be able to appreciate the effort put forth into the piece of true art set in front of him.

          Though, of course, what made it the most special beyond any amount of skill or aesthetic behind it, is the equally special person who’d gifted it to him.

          Ryan can’t keep the huge, positively giddy smile off of his face as he gazes towards Alex, both of their cheerful faces illuminated by the warm, flickering glow beneath them. He’s speechless for a moment at the sheer amount of gratitude the floods throughout his veins, until he’s exhaling a breathy chuckle and lightly shaking his head. “Alex, I… this is- amazing… I mean- it definitely, uh… takes the cake for best cake I’ve ever had.”
