For when times are dark.

Do you know why our fair King Dath’Remar chose the sun over the moon? Many think it a petty act, or a political one. Perhaps it is-all things are in a way political. But after years of freezing, dying, scrounging through the woodland nights I think this thought occurred to him in all his wisdom.

The sun rises.

Each day it finds the strength to rise above the horizon, to rise from nothing, to make itself new and grand. It is because it works each day to rise that it shines triumphant through the day. It shines so brightly all creation bows with its shadows, so that all that is can live in awe of the task. To remake from nothing. To rebuild from oblivion. We elves are not so lucky.

Life is cruel, and short. Unlike the days we flicker in and out of the world at intervals bizarre and for reasons ambivalent. We go to bed. We bow to darkness, take its hand and say, “To tomorrow.” knowing only one time that we will be lead astray forever. We do not have the almighty confidence of the sun, no guarantees. No fixed and perfect pattern to which we can live our lives in sublime and beautiful repetition. Instead we do what every mortal must. We do something greater than Belore in every day and every waking moment. Something the sun, with all its power and light and life.

We choose to rise.

We fight through pain, winter, darkness, hellfire. Things the sun will never know. Things it cannot know in its harmless perfect path. We see the darkness before us not knowing where it leads, or if we will survive. Yet we continue on. We continue despite the darkness, despite the pain and we come out stronger for it. For unlike the sun we are consumed when we burn, our passions and our hatreds and our fears and our rejoices. We shine and shine until one day we must stop and yet:

We choose to rise.

When our king hailed the sun and declared, “Look in all its glory and take it into thyself. Let your heart know its warmth. Let your soul be carried by its ascent. Let your minds be illuminated in its radiance. See the sun and how each day it rises again and again unstoppable and eternal. Make yourself into the sun, so that your light will grace everything it touches.” he knew he stood among a glorious constellation. For every star is a sun, and every pinpoint torch in the darkness-for all its chilling space-casts light from within itself. They shine so bright that in their neighbor’s skies they announce.

“I am here. I am still here. I still burn.”

We burn together.

We always see those claims that another character would have been a better heroine than Sakura ie hinata, ino or karin but honestly I'm pretty sure they would be subjected to the same bandwagon hate that Sakura got had they been the main female character...I mean they would still be in between sns and they do have feelings for either naruto or sasuke. It's just that now it's convenient to use the side characters to shit on sakura but they'll be quick to change their tune had things change imo.

That’s true enough. People would find a way to hate the female heroine for their own reasons, as it’s really a subjective matter, but poor Sakura gets the short end of the stick for a multitude of reasons that don’t exactly have much to do with her character.

In this case,regarding “hinata VS sakura as main female character” I think they couldn’t be more wrong. I do like Hinata so I’m not speaking out of spite for a character I dislike, but to me there’s no question I much prefer Sakura’s personality and story – she and Hinata are different and I have my preferences surely, but objectively Sakura’s more interesting to me.

As for the role of heroine/main female, to me, Sakura’s only “sin” isn’t even her own fault. It’s the lack of screentime, or panel time, that she was devoted when it came to showcasing all of her abilities. This, in comparison with her male counterparts and “protagonist/atagonist”, her teammates, who are her best friend and love interest (now lover, husband). We see her intelligence highlighted enough for us to KNOW she’s one of the most intelligent in her generation and beyond that. We know her chakra control is so precise it grants her an advantage that has nothing to do with a clan’s inheritance, but that she honed through training and by her own means. She’s also knowledgeable when it comes to genjustu but we barely see that side of her applied in battle – sadly, we see her being put under genjutsu by Sasuke himself, when she’s taken unaware and she’s exhausted from the war.  

People just refuse to aknowledge what we do see of her, but that only makes their bias more noticeable, so you can see their logic is usually flawed from the get-go.

Not to say she’s a perfect character – she isn’t. To me, she’s important in that sense because it makes her more realistic and it shows her progress throughout the series. Of course, nobody should be forced to love her since we all have different tastes and interpret things differently… But reducing her to only a few shallow traits, that are then exaggerated, and claiming that they hate Sakura, when they’re not even properly looking at her character, tells me enough about what kind of goggles these folks look at her through.

Hinata, I love you, sweet girl – but you’d not make a more interesting protagonist, or stronger, or cooler because you’re from a clan. Same for Karin, she’s a fun character but in no way more powerful or intelligent than Sakura.

In fact , the whole “clan clan clan!” claims only make me roll my eyes – are we talking about THE CHARACTERS or the families they belong to? Can people not learn from Neji’s untimely (and unnecessary) death? Why should a clan be such a defining trait and why is it that an ‘ordinary’ character can’t be powerful just because they’re not from a renowned clan? Shino’s from a strong clan but he’s not too highlighted; Jiraya is not from any known clan and yet he’s a damn badass. Holding a character’s worth to the clan they belong to is something I just see as shallow…

Joke’s on them, anyway, because Sakura’s an Uchiha by marriage now. And she is an Uchiha out of Sasuke’s own volition, no matter what the antis wish to claim. ;) We’re talking about a guy who refused to “follow his brother’s path” to acquire a more powerful sharingan, after all, who wanted to become more powerful on his own. If that’s not enough of a proof that Sasuke has his own damn mind then tbh I don’t know what is, or how it’s possible for people to even equate the possiblity that he’d be forced into marriage or that he’d “slip” and impregnate Sakura out of an impulse unless he truly loved her. X’D

Uchiha Sakura is important to me, because it’s important to Sasuke and Sakura as a couple; not to mention, she’s well-known and loved in the village and she’s definitely a positive light to be associated with this clan.

I still don’t see the point in maliciously pitting either gitl – or ship – against the other, but if we have to be fair and make a comparison then we have to keep in mind each one has her story and progress,but only one of them has the main female role in the story.

Do you know of a fanfiction when sakura gets pregnant but doesn't know it, then gets kidnapped by Karin and sent to Suna to some lord guy and he tries to take the baby?? Thank you!

I don’t read much fanfiction at all, but either way – never heard of that fic! sorry. Sounds quite awful for Karin, too… :/ but maybe someone who follows me knows what that fic is.

people miss the point that even though we ship ss, doesn't mean we're blind to its flaws. Gaiden has problems in itself, but there are good moments, and at the end of the day that's what Kishi has written and no one can make him change it so it's useless to nitpick over every single thing. I've stopped taking naruto that seriously years ago and just learn to enjoy it as it is. Antis should go make fanworks instead of trying to argue canon like is this the first time their ship is not canon? 😂

precisely! thanks for this. I see the flaws in Gaiden and in the drama Kishi forced upon SS but in the end, I do try to see the positive things he tried to convey with it and focus on those.

You’re right...it’s better to just focus on what we really enjoy, because there’s definitely some serious mistakes within the story (Itachi’s ages in some parts is just weird and the same goes for Obito imo), and it’s definitely so, so much better to spend time ENJOYING something, than to spend time hating on something else. Right?

I mean, why waste so much energy on being negative all the damn time ? and why waste time on bashing something they dislike so much? Obviously I think most of them get a kick out of being spiteful, but others just seem so angry that I wonder why they don’t just let go and enjoy the fanon versions of their preference... *shrugs*

Hi anon! I ❤️ you for asking this, but I’m afraid not. I did have a couple of scenarios/ideas jotted down for this prompt (like four tbh lol) but life at home and at work has been so hectic – and my laptop has been on repair for 2 weeks and could be another 2 before it’s back – that I just haven’t managed anything. 😣 I hope the next few days will be calmer, but then I’ll be traveling and I have a wedding. So let’s see how this goes. 😘

I'm freaking out as well, sp don't mess with me 😤 i know a lot of non-shippers say that we're too whiny about sp's treatment of ss but unless your favs are treated like ss you won't know how frustrating it feels grrr I mean i'm not expecting them to make coughfillercough moments for ss but at least don't twist and manipulate their moments into something else completely, why tf is that so hard. I get that animation is no easy job but that doesn't excuse changing a story to suit your own whim

Well, you’re right. Non-shippers either don’t notice, or they do notice and are pretty happy about it because it’s not their faves getting shanked; and, usually, when SasuSaku / Sasuke / Sakura get the short end of the stick this is almost always done in benefit of some other ship or character.

But yeah, I will not expect anything from a studio that pushes so hard to make not just the couple, but the characters themselves look bad whenever they get the chance, while wanking to other characters/ships *coughnonamesneedtobementionedcough*

I won’t fall into the hopes that they might come up with something nice for Sasuke, Sakura and Sarada as a couple or family. But I’d at least expect them to, as you say, not erase what the author himself created and wanted to show. Even if I heavily disagree with Kishi’s course of action and storyline choices to get said point (and more drama) across...  .___.

Studio Pierrot isn’t shy when it comes to showing their preferences. If they can’t keep their bias out of the way of production -- meaning, if they want to do as they’ve always done and conjure up filler material for their faves -- then by all means. Just don’t cross the lines the author himself laid down. They know all too well what “little” details they enjoy messing with.

It’s not difficult to notice that most(or many) of the folks who hate SasuSaku watched the anime and didn’t read the manga.

Anyway. We can’t expect any gratutious mushy romance as that’s not what the ship is about. It’s about subtlety and deep, unrelenting feelings and connections that withstand brutal trials. Leave the mushy romance bits to the fandom, fanart and fanfiction. :p

Well that’s a little mean. 😞 While I do believe, based on canon evidence, that Sakura is more powerful (and undeniably has a more prominent role as the main female) than Hinata, I don’t want to pit one character against the other. Hinata has her merits, let’s not forget them!
