Varric,
Old friend. You and I have been through The Void together, and somehow always managed to come out on top. But this, I fear may not be one of those times. For if you are reading these words, then I have gone to join Andraste at The Maker’s side.
Please, wipe the tear I know is gathering at the corner of your eye. I knew well what I was getting into, and despite your wild tales, I am only mortal. Varric, it occurs to me that you and I have shared more than any other I can think of. And it feels so very cheap of me to do this to you here, like this.
Words on a page. But this may be the only chance I have to say it. I fell so hard and fast for you I did not notice it myself until I found myself staring down Death itself. You have been my best friend and confidant since my arrival in Kirkwall, and I did a piss poor job of repaying that kindness.
Attached to this letter, you will find my mother’s locket. I ask that you keep it for me, old friend.
However grim this letter is, please do not cry. For I remember a man who always had a smile and a story for a friend. So please, Varric. For my sake, as well as yours:
Smile.
With all my heart,
~H
ps. Don’t leave out my favorite part of this story. The lovable dwarf with the gorgeous crossbow. And the heart of gold. <3
