The Babcock Grist Mill in Clifftop, WV is iconic.

There are tons of post cards and mugs featuring this reconstructed mill associated with West Virginia. On September 20th, 2015, I went with some friends to check out this mill.

While the mill was interesting, I was far more interested in the layer of fog we experienced on the trail above the mill. We were worried because the morning was rainy, but the afternoon was warm and sunny. The nearby lake held that moisture and have us a fascinating layer of fog at the overlook.

One of my friends took a great photo of me at the bench overlooking the valley. What would normally be a beautiful overlook was filled with fog and if you’ve ever lived in the mountains, sometimes when you want to enjoy a scenic view, it’s time to look into the void.

Our next stop was the Hawks Nest State Park Overlook by the Hawks Nest Dam.

After we checked out the overlook, we decidedUpper Gauley River Put-In below the Lower Viewing Platform of the Summersville Dam to watch some water powerfully released below the dam. We enjoyed listening to the sound of the river and one of my friends took a photo of me by the water.

At the end of the day, we stopped by the Summersville Lake Lighthouse and then went to the New River Gorge Bridge Overlook.

We hiked the boardwalk stairwell at the New River Gorge Bridge Overlook and wrapped up our Sunday adventure before we got some food and went home

Crossing the New River at Hawks Nest, the 2012 Collis P. Huntington New River Train hugs the banks of the New River, on its late afternoon excursion from Hinton to Huntington. The 2012 consist includes 29 cars, divided between Amtrak, and private varnish cars from various owners. October 20, 2012
