The grimace on Anakin’s face worsened as you dabbed his injuries clean. In truth his wounds hurt less than your cold silence. Usually he adored being home at your side finding comfort he rarely got when he was away on missions, but now in this moment he wished to be far away on a distant moon hiding from your gaze. 

His teeth sunk into the inner corner of his cheek as your fingers brushed against his seared flesh.

“ Say something. ”

You didn’t respond, but Anakin could tell what you wanted to say by the roughness of your actions. He bit back a hiss as you pressed the sterile rag into his wound. His hand lurched forward, grabbing your wrist, stopping you in your tracks. 

“ You’re going to open the wound again. Tell me what is wrong. ”

“ You were injured and you never even bothered to tell me. ”

“ It’s only a small wound. ”

A huff escaped you as you wiped his wound roughly before beginning to wrap his torso in bandages. Once you finished you pulled away from Anakin leaving him alone on the sofa. 

Quickly Anakin followed after you, trailing behind as you walked out to the balcony. You stood alone, your arms rested on the railing top as you looked out onto the city. The lights glowed and shimmered through the night sky almost like twinkling stars. 

Anakin crept up behind you, his body pressing against yours from behind. His head dipped down, pressing his lips to the nape of your neck. 

“ Forgive me, please? ”

Your shoulders lost their tension, a sigh escaping your lips. Slowly you relaxed into Anakin, your back pressing against his front. His lips began to travel down from your neck to your shoulders. His fingers brushed over the strap of your dress gently pushing it down your arm. Anakin’s lips followed the strap of your dress as it fell. Anakin tossed you over his shoulder ignoring the searing pain in his side. He carried you all the way to your shared bedroom before he came to toss you onto the bed. You hit the mattress with a soft thud, bouncing from the impact. Anakin crawled over you, his lips finding your neck again. They trailed down your collarbone finding the tops of your breasts. His hands pulled at the straps of your dress, but something felt wrong. The fingers pressed into your skin didn’t feel like flesh, they felt like leather. 

You pressed your hands against Anakin’s chest pushing him back. You grabbed his left hand, it was normal, quickly you grabbed the other it was clad in a glove.

“ What’s this? ”

“ A glove, why does it matter? ”

Anakin’s lips pressed back against your skin, he was trying to distract you.

“ You have never worn a glove in your life, and now all the sudden you do? ”

Anakin’s head popped back up, his left hand rising to push his messy curls from his face. 

“ I am trying to be romantic, and you are stuck on an accessory. ”

You pushed Anakin off of you, sitting beside him on the bed. 

“ Anakin. Take it off. ”

“ I said no. ”

“ I am your wife! ”

Your sentence struck him like a physical blow. His wife. You were his everything in life, and you deserved the truth. 

“ You’ll only worry. ”

He knew his words were falling on deaf ears. He saw the defiance in your eyes, you would fight him until he gave in, he knew that, he loved that fire in you. 

Slowly he brought his right hand forward, bringing it in between you both. His left hand rose pulling loose the leather bindings that kept his glove secured. The glove fell loose, and with his free hand he pulled the glove off, setting it beside you on the bed. 

Where Anakin’s hand once stood now laid a crude prosthetic. The finger tips were golden, wires resembling veins running up the structure of the prosthetic. It all gave the feeling of a real hand, but there was no flesh, no warmth.

The moment Anakin saw the tears welling in your eyes he wished he could take it all back. The small gasp that escaped your lips cut through him like a blade. He watched with careful eyes as you reached out with shaking hands to touch his hand. 

He was too nervous to speak, too scared to move. 

“ How.. How did you lose it? ”

“ A lightsaber. ”

“ Who? ”

“ Count Dooku. ”

Anakin didn’t want to remember it just as much as you didn’t want to picture it. 

Anakin gently reached out, his metallic fingers brushing against yours. 

You felt the cool metal dance across your warm skin, it was different, foreign in a way. 

“ It’s still me, please understand that. ”

“ It’s just different. ”

Slowly your fingers intertwined with Anakin’s, your palm pressing against the cold metal. You knew it was still Anakin, he had just changed is all, but he was still him.

memories from last night rush into his still sleep-ridden mind. the way your delicate hands felt in his hair, the sensation of your legs wrapping around his waist. he longed for every touch back. he yearned for another taste of the sweet honey that was yours. he ran a hand through his sandy curls and sighed, a smile playing on his gentle lips.

once you returned with two coffee mugs, displaying the names ‘mr’ and ‘mrs’, he was on you. lips found your neck, pressing slow kisses along the side of your throat. “clay, what are you..” you giggle, the onslaught of kisses taking you by surprise. his legs wrapped around you and he climbed half of top of you, kissing your face and then your lips.
