Forgotten Places The Haygate Estate
If you don't know what this is first I would suggest a Google search. It is basically a massive council estate in south London that has been falling apart. The tenets were relocated (though some didn't want to leave) and it is being knocked down slowly.
You may recognize it as it has appeared in numerous films and TV shows as a typical urban estate setting. Access to the buildings have been welded shut as well as some of the access to the estate itself, but of course there are still ways to enter. I have been interested with the Haygate for years as I went to university in the area.
As you can imagine myself and others from time to time went exploring to photograph the urban decay and write essay on how tragic it is. And since leaving the area I hadn't really been back until yesterday. I was very surprised to see it had changed quite a bit since my previous visits and so much has over grown and other bits have fallen apart. I am a huge fan of fallout, wasteland metro, stalker, DMZ, walking dead and this was the closest Ive felt to wandering around some post apocalyptic wasteland.
There normally aren't any people although I did run into two people filming and had to dodge a security guard, Allthough I have to say this just added to the atmosphere. I reignited my passion for exploring forgotten place and photographing them. Hopefully with time I may continue exploring some of these places and showing them to you. Ashenden block, Heygate Estate- If architecture could kill. Hoping to build a collection of this place before it's pulled down.
