Fanwalker questions(for both): How did they spark? What plane did they first walk to? What kind of skills/magic do they excel at? Do they abhor certain kinds of magic? Any cards in particular remind you of them/ if you had to make a deck based on them what strategies/cards would you use?

Vaset (U)

First planeswalk: Zendikar

Spark: Vaset was a vizier of Kefnet who very much cared for her god. After basically saving her from being culled due to physical weakness by selecting her as a vizier for her mind and magical talents, Vaset dedicated her life to Kefnet. His death was too much for her and caused her spark. There’s a comic about it here!

Magic skill set: She primarily excels at illusion magic but has a few skills in telepathy, countermagic, and a very very tiny bit of occasional visions/precognition.

Does she abhor any types of magic: Nah. Vaset mostly just wants/likes to learn about new things so she can record them. She’d probably just be excited and interested in new/different types of magic.

Cards that remind me of them: Dissolve, Aetherize, Ponder, Dismiss Into Dream, Phantasmal Image

If I made a deck for Vaset (Which I really want to now that I’ve been looking into it but that would make 3 mono blue decks haha) it would definitely be tricksy illusion tribal. Lots of illusions and reactionary tricks. I’m really digging the idea of Ixidron and Unblinking Bleb it’s jank as all get out but would be particularly funny in that deck.

Ayselle (WU)

Spark: During the time of Avacyn’s absence it was incredibly difficult to be a human in general. Ayselle was from a small village under threat by all sorts of monsters (it’s Innistrad.) Ayselle was determined to protect her people by any means necessary. Young and naive, she struck a deal with Olivia Voldaren in an attempt to gain protection from the vampires, curious that Olivia had not yet asked for anything in return. Ayselle soon found her town in ruin, as Olivia’s idea of protecting it’s citizens was by turning them. The resulting altercation caused Ayselle to lose her right arm, and the guilt of having doomed her people ignited her spark. Her first walk led her to Ravnica, where she was found unconscious and bleeding out by the Azorius.

First planeswalk: Ravnica

Magic skill set: Primarily control magic. Detaining/exiling spells, law magic, bounce magic, counter magic.

Does she abhor any types of magic: Probably doesn’t care for the more chaotic end of the magical spectrum as she is currently employed by the Azorius.

Cards that remind me of them: Inaction Injunction, Trail of Evidence, Confirm Suspicions, Declaration in Stone, Azorius Charm

If I were to build a deck around Ayselle it would probably be a WU hard control deck with Lavinia as commander. I’d probably play spells like Ghostly Prison and Blind Obedience to keep from being attacked while running bounce spells, exile and counterspells while building up to potentially some larger win cons.

Haha thanks. I had to stop myself because I forgot Publix is a regional thing and I tend to equate ‘Publix’ and ‘grocery store.’
